Will PKI purchase another Stand-Up?

Featured Replies

I know this topic has been brought up on these boards before, but will PKI purchase another stand-up coaster in the future? dry.gif

I doubt it they were an 80's trend I dont think PKI would get another stand-up I could be wrong.

There was a resurgence in the 90's with the B&M stand-up (Vortex, Iron Wolf, Mantis, Chang, Joker's Jinx, etc.)

Personally, I prefer the first generation Togo stand-ups (yes, over a B&M...) I think the sensation of "standing" was more pronounced since there was less of the car structure around you. (I loved the front "seat" on King Cobra...) Also, I don't think the B&M stand-ups age well...Mantis is downright painful anymore with all the head banging.

My guess is that the stand-up was a fad that won't be back until someone comes up with a 3rd generation version. I imagine "flying" coasters are in the same boat. (Unlike suspended inverteds, which made their debut 13 years ago but have new ones built almost every year with very little design changes from the original--that's the mark of a "classic" coaster design.)

I don't think you'll see another stand-up at PKI. Sorry, but I like them Beemers better. They could do so much more than a hill, a loop, a helix, and some trick track. I personally don't find Mantis painful at all, so I think it has aged just fine.

I love Stand Ups. Even though you cant be exposed to as many forces while standing they are really great and the first drops are always sweet. Maybe Vekmoa would make their only version of a stand up but I doubt it. If PKI gets a new stand up it would greatly surprize me.

No "sorry" needed...that's why it's called an opinion biggrin.gif

Mantis = rougher then chang. I think mantis is getting pretty rough but it might just need a big overhaul with maintence or something like that. I dont care for stand-ups much. When all the blood goes to your legs I think it really hurts but im also a bigger guy so that could be why. Im also always worried about being stuck on one with nothing but a bannana seat haha.

Yes, stand ups were a fad. I enjoyed King Cobra at Kings Island more than Mantis. In part, because Mantis hurt my legs from all the blood rushing down to them. Also, I liked the fact that King Cobra had airtime! I miss King Cobra, and was sad to see it go. But I enjoy the ride that replaced it even more! No, PKI will never get another stand up coaster. One can only hope that one day they will install a full length inverted machined from those guys in Switzerland.

Just one word ....Why? PKI doesnt need one I miss King Cobra but thats in the past I really dont think PKI will ever get another Stand-Up unless it's a beemer.

I would love to see a floorless coaster at Kings Island. That would be great. cool.gif

I would love to see either a hyper/giga or a floorless coaster at PKI. Stand Ups are a thing of the past and I cant say I am broken hearted. Nothing says fun like ridding a bannana seat through multiple inversions and then trying to find your testicles afterwards. ohmy.gif

LMAO! laugh.gif

I would like to see a flying coaster installed at PKI, especially after riding X Flight at GL.
