I know the press release states that construciton will begin this summer for Great Bear Lodge and that it will open late next year, but does anyone know when or if they have started yet? Just curious because I haven't noticed any heavy equipment or clearing yet.

I love the Great Bear Lodge's and I can't wait till they get this one open so I dont have to drive to the Dells or Sandusky anymore to get my winter waterpark fix.

As far as I know, their has been no work done on the site when I rode Top Gun last Thursday. It appears as if nothing yet has been done. But I am sure they are finalizing the design, getting permits, and doing survey work in preparation of major construction. I do not have a clue on when they plan to start physical construction.

Nothing is being done yet. Probably will start in fall.

I went yesterday and seen that they have big trucks and tracktors so I guess they are gearing up.

The lodge in Sandusky is amazing and the resturants they have are absolutely great. I wouldnt call it 5 star, more like 4 but still awesome. I hope they put the family style resturant in this one like the others have, because the food is great and very reassonable.

They probaly have the land marked off and what not and they are probaly just waiting for the green light.

They have cleared out all of the fire rings and picnic tables. They are finalizing the plans!

You are correct...it is called the Great Wolf Lodge. The first few original resorts were called "Great Bear" (I think just the original in the Wisconsin Dells and the Sandusky property). Later properties were called "Great Wolf", and they eventually went back and rebranded the orginal "Bear" properties as "Wolf". I have no idea why they decided to go with wolf instead of bear...

No, this will not be a "5 Star" resort...maybe a "4", but most likely a "3". Resorts that cater mostly to children/families very seldom ever score too high on the "luxury" factor. Also, there are no "5 Star" hotel/resorts in Ohio, and only one "5 Star" restaurant.

Probably still waiting for everyone to take what they want out of the office building and such. I know my food stand has come and picked up a few freezers and stuff from there to use. Shouldn't be long before stuff is visible.

i have been in contact with their corp office in minnesota (i think that's where the office is...it's been a few weeks) regarding working at the resort. The person I spoke with which was likely just a secretary stated that they did not have hiring plans until August 2006.

Great Wolf Resorts' HQ is in Madison, WI...

If they anticipate hiring in 08/06, I'd guess they're targeting an opening for next Fall. (Which, I think pretty much matches the orginal timeline.) Based on a 10-12 month construction cycle, we should probably see construction underway within the next few months...

The ground breaking will be on Aug 18th
