Would Cedar Fair/Six Flags survive in Florida?

Featured Replies

With the merged chain, their reach is pretty limitless- with exception of Florida. Prior to the merger, neither chain had any active properties in the sunshine state. It makes you wonder if the merged chain would have a chance in Florida or not.

A slight correction: Six Flags used to operate a waterpark in Florida called Six Flags Atlantis. It was destroyed by a storm (if I had a nickel for every Six Flags park destroyed by a storm, I'd have two nickels) and never reopened. They had a pretty cool logo as well!

As for whether or not the new chain could survive in Florida, I think they would be able to serve a role like FunSpot Orlando does. Could they compete with Busch Gardens Tampa or SeaWorld Orlando? I'm not certain on that one, but a small Six Flags park in the northern regions of the state might have more of a chance.

I think Cedar Fair could have. They are/were able to hold their own with Knott’s on the west coast. In a pre- Blackfish world, there was interest in buying/merging with the Sea World parks too. I think it could’ve worked at that time.

Not sure if Six Flags in 2026 could hack it, to be honest.
