Taking down of ice rink

Featured Replies

Anyone else been watching them clear the ice rink?

They have a few people just shoveling and such and earlier at least had snow blowers.

Kinda comedic and 1/2 way done only.  Do they know more snow is coming Friday?

They should just get the zamboni and put a plow on it and be done....

Just a guess, but I think they already removed one top section.  Maybe the second wouldn't support the weight of a machine?

Actually, they could be using snow blowers.  I bought a 21" SnowJoe Electric one for $65 in July from Walmart ($95 off) and it works great!  The could have 4-5 of them and start at the center and work to the outside lined up stairstepped like they do on the highway.

At what point do the string lights go down on the Eiffel Tower?

Within a couple of weeks. I’d guess they’d be about down by now if the weather hadn’t been so bad. When they first started doing this, it took them days to put them up and take them down. Now it’s about a day’s worth of work. They won’t do it if it’s super-cold. Who would want to go up there in this weather? :)

Yes, I am sure no one would thoroughly enjoy sitting 300+ ft in the air, when on the ground the wind-chill makes it about -2 °F. I don't know what the math is to measure the temp up 300+ ft from the ground, but I know that it wouldn't be enjoyable!:P

So i just noticed the fountains have been removed.  Do they do that each year for cleaning as well?

Everything is below the wooden platform.

For a twist that would not cost much capital, KI should leave the platform and do passholder opening day concert on the fountain (chairs on the platform with using the stage in reverse). Then restore the fountain for May operations. It would be no worse than the fountain not operating during the last week of Haunt (although this last season the fountain ran longer during Haunt weekend than previous years).

Nothing like the fountains and fireballs during the Haunt. I absolutely love it! (Although the music got really annoying this year after 3+ visits:P)

Yikes! I can see what you mean...VERY annoying. Off topic: What's your favorite music they play during the Haunt? Mine's probably the hard rock guitar music.

Where I worked sometimes the music was pumped into our prep room in the back and that was also awful because no matter where you worked the music was always playing. Five years ago the music was playing, but recently they stopped pumping in music most of the time. It is unfortunate cause whenever they would send out park announcements they would never come through our speaker. So when the important things were announced like the park closing we always had to step outside to hear the announcements. But some nights I would fall asleep listening to the instrumental covers that they played during the regular season, but as keep working their year after year the music doesn’t even register in your head anymore. During the first haunt of the season we would never warn the new coworkers about the cannons, it was like our initiation during haunt. You get jump scared by the cannons.

I remember the first time I visited the Haunt...those cannons really get your heart going!;)

Kind of reminds me when the CBJ would score a goal

BAM!!!

The fountain is starting to escape from under the ice rink! Won't be too long now before we see it filled with water (well a couple of months).

maybe they'll paint the pool floor.

They leave that up to the geese due to the budget.
