Child Injured by Flying Phone at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Featured Replies

And this is why they need to be more vigilant and maybe keep the train locked when they see this come in to the station so the violator can be caught.  Manually release the injured to get them medical assistance, but leave everyone else locked in until security gets there.

Or just give one warning on the lift hill and stop the coaster on the lift if they do not comply.  I have heard it two and three times going up Racer and they don't put away and the ride continues.

Not that anyone would comply and they would run, but it would be nice if a train came in and a guest said the person in front of me had their phone out and said guest would have to either prove there is no video on their phone or be escorted from the park for not wanting to show their phone (as that would admit guilt LOL).  This would never happen, but parks need to start thinking of ways to get compliance before even more serious injuries occur.

It is nonsense like this that will end up being no items in the line for EVERY ride.

"He was looking for his phone talking to the workers and then he came over, he saw my little cousin covering her face and was like, 'Stop freaking out. It's not a big deal,' and then he left and walked away,"

A trip to the ER and an MRI and 10 stitches doesn't sound like no big deal to me...

This happened to a lady several years ago at KD on Twisted Timbers and the person with the lost cell phone did the same thing - simply walked away with no consequence other than a lost phone.

Goodness. It's bad enough to cause an injury but then the lack of sympathy to a little girl that you just seriously injured, that's abhorrent.

I'm a very mild-mannered kind of guy.  However, I nearly got in a physical-fight with a young punk at SFGAM a few years back.  He proceeded to "attempt" to film his ride on Goliath by holding his phone in his hands above his head... and he was in the seat directly in front of me.

If you've not ridden Goliath, its not a mild coaster by any stretch of the imagination.... as we went up the lift, I said to him (loudly) "put the phone away" - but he refused.  He then proceeded to get tossed all over the place losing control of his arms and phone during the ride.  I managed to not get hit - narrowly.  By the time we hit the brake run, I was so angry that I reached forward and grabbed the hood of his sweatshirt and pulled as hard as I could.  By the time the train reached the station we were in a full-out verbal fight.  He was COMPLETELY oblivious to anything other than his own desire to video/stream that ride..... and could not, in any way, understand that he put others (me) in danger.  He was a complete punk about it.

Once we were out of the train, he quickly realized I was about twice his size and I wasn't backing down.  So he proceeded to exit the ride as quickly as he could - scampering away into the crowd.  His GF, however, apologized to me.

My point is NOT that anyone should physically take matters into their hands like I did (that was wrong.)  Its to cite an exact example of how, too often, the ones filming have a "superior" mentality.  Until they are "awakended" to the fact that what they are doing is literally ignorant - and dangerous - then they're oblivious to the safety and welfare of others.

I mentioned this in another thread, but a pair of guys behind me on The Beast lift hill were called out by the ride op over the speakers and afterwards during the ride they kept referring to the op as as a "psycho" who was "power tripping." I think you're totally right about their mentality.

The entitlement "rules don't apply to me" philosophy.

How many times do you see a security guard nicely inform someone vaping or smoking that this is not allowed in the park and the guest jumps the security guards case?

Or heaven forbid a guest kindly inform the smoking/vaping guest about the policy or point to the PA system as that announcement is being said and the f bomb flies.

How many times have you told a guest in front of you or next to you with a phone out that it is illegal and they keep right on doing it...

It doesn't help that a few of the teeny bopper YouTube "stars" have gained permission to do onride filming.  Yes, park permission is granted, but hey, if (insert "star" here) can do it, I should be able to as well.

Like DB's visual box of phones that are considered experienced riding phones, parks need to start showing video of actual guests being escorted out for breaking park rules on every park monitor.

The days of giving guests with entitlement issues a 2nd chance need to be over.
