Kings Island fans and roller coaster enthusiasts to marathon rides on The Racer roller coaster to raise money for Kicks Cancer
The thrill of riding a roller coaster will have a whole new meaning August 14, when Kings Island hosts the “Kicks Cancer Coasterthon” to raise money for the park’s annual Kicks Cancer Campaign, which raises money for research and care in the fight against cancers affecting men, women and children.
Kings Island fans and roller coaster enthusiasts alike will enjoy a day filled with riding The Racer, which opened with the park in 1972, over and over again between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., plus exclusive night rides on the Banshee roller coaster.
Net proceeds from the event will benefit three local charities: The Dragonfly Foundation, Melanoma Know More, and Pink Ribbon Girls.

All participants will receive:

  •  Complimentary admission ticket to Kings Island
  • Kicks Cancer Coasterthon t-shirt
  • Lunch
  • Unlimited rides on The Racer
  • Night Ride on Banshee
  • Plaques will be awarded to the top five fundraisers

All participants are required to pay a $25 registration fee up front and raise a minimum of $75 in order to participate in this event. Be sure to visit our Coasterthon event page for the most up-to-date details.
Fundraising ends August 8 at midnight.
The Racer – really its twin racers – has been the focal point of the Coney Mall sector of the park for the past four decades, and with good reason. The Racer is credited for re-igniting the roller coaster building boom in the early 1970’s, thus beginning the second golden age of the roller coaster.  More than 102 million guests have taken a ride on The Racer since it opened April 29, 1972 – the most in park history. Its record year was 1976, when a park record 3,681,338 rides were given.

In addition to being considered an important part of the roller coaster renaissance of the 1970’s, The Racer was the site of several world-record riding attempts and is notable for its appearance in the “Cincinnati Kids” episode of The Brady Bunch, filmed at the park in 1973.

Well at two rides and have to get off, that is more of a re-ride than they let Bert the Conqueror with Travel Channel do October 2015  :P.  Which by the way, said footage never aired on his season that came and went this summer.  Not surprised...

The episode with Bert the Conqueror at Kings Island is scheduled to air on the Travel Channel later this month.

I will be signing up tomorrow. With the fractured rib, my riding will be limited. Doctor gave me the OK to ride again in a couple of weeks, as long as I don't over do it. Now time to raise some money!!

At first, I thought it was a Thursday, but it is a Sunday, therefore I won't be able to participate.  But working at a cancer center, I will spread the word, as a matter of fact, I already did and forwarded the email.  Great job, Kings Island!

While I absolutely don't believe you would be lying, I find it interesting that the official schedule at http://www.travelchannel.com/shows/bert-the-conqueror now shows no new episodes until August, as does http://www.travelchannel.com/schedule. An episode with Holiday World (possibly the same episode) was scheduled for later this month as well. I assume the episode(s) was/were originally on the schedule, and thus I wonder why Travel Channel removed it/them, apparently without telling you about it.
