June 23, 201610 yr The only reason I even remember that ride is because someone lost their life. It is so forgettable.
June 23, 201610 yr That's so great for the Raven and Holliday World. Such a fantastic ride. Such a fantastic privately owned park that continues to prove that it can compete with the big budget chain parks. Congrats!!!!
June 23, 201610 yr Congratulations should go to Pat Koch, Will Koch (her late son), and Natalie Koch. Current park ownership had exactly nothing to do with courageously installing this park changing coaster.
June 23, 201610 yr Author Agreed 100%, Terp, and that honestly made me hesitate to post this . The ride definitely deserves the Status it received today.
June 23, 201610 yr Well, to be honest part of me expected this, but it is still good to see Raven earn its rightful status as a roller caster landmark. While it is my least favorite of the 3 Holiday World wooden coasters (though that's only because something had to be the worst- all 3 are amazing IMO and Raven's only real flaw in my eyes is that it feels like it ends too soon) the other 2, and Thunderbird, would not exist had Raven not come along- this ride's popularity got the ball rolling, which led to Legend...then that lead to Voyage...and so on and so forth. Holiday World is on their way to leaving small family park status and becoming a regional juggernaut, and Raven is where that began. It also proved bigger wasn't always better as it humiliated the other then-new wooden coasters of its day (like Texas Giant, Mean Streak, Hercules, and Rattler...notice how most of them are gone now) even though it was barely half their size (if even that!), and as such could probably be credited with the new wave of CCI, Gravity Group, and GCI woodies that followed that also didn't go a billion feet in the air and still found success. So, to end this post...congratulations to The Raven, its designers Dennis McNulty and Larry Bill, Will Koch+Pat Koch+Natalie Koch, and everyone else who worked on this ride that not only has given a lot of people some serious thrills in spite of its small size, but took a small park that had little to offer to coaster fans and gradually made it a regional destination with over a million visitors a year. Personal Raven Tip: Ride in the very back seat for some good ejector air on the 5th drop.
