The joy of riding The Beast, for me, is when some fellow riders, often on their first ride of said legend, vocalize the ubiquitous misunderstanding about the ride upon which they're soon to be surpris

And it shall be easy to identify such defilers, as they shall bear The Mark of The Beast.

For Kings Island so loved the world, it gave its only "Son."

Turned out to be more of an Antichrist, didn't it? :D

I guess I'm fairly new, but this is as ridiculous a thread as I have read on this site, from start to finish...lol.  From RMC'ing The Beast (blasphemy), to Son of Beast dying a martyr's death.  Hilarious!

Son of Beast, how misunderstood. You could've been a superstar but your loyal follower turned out to be a a shrieking Banshee. [emoji39][emoji23]

I heard there was one year in the early 2000s either 2001 or 2002 when The Beast had no trims at all due to the skid brakes in the process of being replaced. Is this true or was it just a rumor?

More like 10 days or so....NOT a season.

And I don't think it ever didn't have an operating midcourse in the brakeshed before the second lift that year.

Thank you! I just remember reading that on someones early 2000s trip report and just remembered it. Would've like to have experienced what 10 days without trim brakes would be.

I believe some sort of mid course brake has always been in operation at that point. Weighted "skid brakes" we're once used (you can still find the buckets underneath the ride) before the transition to the magnetic variety.

Terp, maybe you can shed some light on this: I've seen video and heard about how the mid course brake shed once had "kicker wheels" at its far end. We're pinch brakes once used there that would allow the train to come to a complete stop, essentially creating another block?

I believe that was in fact the case.

At one time, most mine train rides and flumes had midcourse ride ops who operated brakes or kicker wheels or other controls.

That would explain why I vaguely remember one the flumes somewhere had a worker midway through that stopped us or something?

I remember those kicker wheels at the end of the MCBR. I also remember an employee at the top of the first lift hill and 2 or 3 employees on the "landings" on the second lift hill.
