Kings Island Luau 07/12/2014

Featured Replies

Luau on 7/12 - Food was awful, we waited an hour in line for terrible food. We did not get food until 10:30 PM and clearly the planning for this perhaps was in part an underestimation of passholder participation rate, but Kings Island surely has done events before and precedent/experience seems to have been thrown out the window this time around.

Did anyone preparing the food taste test the food? It was pretty much awful outside of the (pre-made) chicken nuggets and mini corn dogs. The macaroni salad was especially disgusting (who thought mayonnaise and white pepper was a good recipe for macaroni salad?) Come on Kings Island, that was a waste of time for my family. The shrimp was not good, it smelled like old/rotten shrimp. The chicken sandwich was gross (again, anyone taste this stuff before serving?). Lastly, you could not see what you were trying to put on your plate due to no lighting. The staff were pleasant, but appeared to have no ability to anticipate that once they brought out one bowl of whatever to replace the (completely empty table of 3-4 bowls), they probably would another one right away. They instead waited until the bowl was empty and then went to the kitchen (in Alaska?) for a refill. This seems to have been an entire operation run by children who have no clue. I realize the food was provided "free of charge" and thank goodness cause it was not worth what we paid, and it was a wasted trip driving to Kings Island yesterday for this. We were unable to do anything much else (rides etc) because we waited so long in line.

So you got in line for food at 9:30? If you didn't have time to do much else than I am assuming you arrived at the park around 8:45. Why would you wait until 9:30 to get in line to eat your food? Just eat your food at home. I always go by this: if you want something done right, do it yourself. Anyways, I am sorry that your experience at KI was horrible.

The event was only scheduled for 2 hours, which seemed a waste to spend that time in line for some free food. I saw that line and glad I ate dinner before coming to the event. People are crazy to wait that long for food, and think they can "complain" that didn't have enough time to do anything. I will agree that a better quality food service was needed, and i am guessing with midnight closing, Dino after Dark, and the event lasting only 2 hours that park did not anticipate the crowd that showed for the event.

I waited 75 minutes for food, and still had time for Mondo Monsoon and Rendezvous Run beforehand and Mondo Monsoon again after.

As for the food, the pulled pork sliders were good.

Free food is usually not worth the bother. Sorry it was such a waste for you!

Except for the free donuts they had on several occasions at the Dino pad for season pass holders. I believe they were Busken, and they were quite yummy.

After the fiasco I encountered at the one Dive-in Movie I attended last summer, I have yet to participate in an event hosted at Soak City. I wasted one Friday night and I decided not to do it again.

Was it the first Dive In Movie? I know there was a little confusion about the pool with that. But hey, I'd rather see them try new things and retool for next time than not try things at all. They're workin' hard.

Boddha1994,

I see the same thing. KI does adjust the plan as it goes. People are now return customers to Dive-in, even though there were a lot of complaints at the first one.

Next public picnic, we'll probably see the complaints of the Luau addressed and things changed.

I didn't expect the first Luau to be a wowser. It seems a lot of people in the world expect exceptional treatment, as if they weren't part of a crowd.
