Save Disney Steam

Featured Replies

The steam engines of the Walt Disney World Railroad at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida are an important part of Disney history, as well as a valuable asset to Walt Disney World.

"Several reports suggest that management is looking to replace these steam engines with steam-outline diesel engines, or in other words, engines that look like steam engines but are actually diesel powered. While some might not notice the difference, this would be a tragic end to the tradition of steam-powered locomotives at Walt Disney World that has been in place for over 40 years."

First of all, Really, just really! Why would Walt Disney World want to get rid of these steam locomotives, you may think that this is fake but it's not. I found out about this on a Walt Disney World railroad Forum site and if they get enough signers for a petition Disney world may consider keeping them. My opinion, NO Walt Disney was a steam train fan and he built Disney Land as a excuse to build a railroad and did the same with Walt Disney World. I mean if he was alive today No one would ever think of getting rid of his Steam Locomotives. Please sign the petiton to save the steam and help keep it at Disney World for generations to ride.

Why? I'm guessing finances play a large roll. Maintance, operation costs, replacement parts, reliability, etc... are all factored in I'm sure.

Change is constant at the parks. I'm sure the average guest doesn't care how the train operates, so long as it continues to provide an enjoyable loop around the park, which it has always done.

See Six Flags Over Georgia.

Emissions requirements in a non-attainment area were a major factor there.

Would you rather have a faux steam train or no train at all? Those may well be the choices.

Just so that you know, the Disneyland and Disney World trains all run Biodiesel to generate the steam. So if you are wanting a true coal experience in a park, go visit Dolly.

The retrofit was done on these engines on both coasts between 2007-2009 I believe. Until there is more fuel for this fire I would call this nothing more than speculation. Then again the train at AK is steam outline.

The Kings Island trains are steamed powered, but there boilers are heated by propane rather than wood or coal.

I believe Cedar Point's trains are true coal-powered steam engines.

They are indeed a true coal powered train.

I figured you would be the one to confirm it. :P

The Disney world trains have already been retrofitted to burn bio desiel fuel, back in 2007. Like Kings Island bio desiel is used to heat the boilers that create the steam for power.

But for how long?
