Soak City 25th Anniversary

Featured Replies

Similar to the 35th anniversary topic, this is the topic to celebrate the waterpark's 25th anniversary. So to celebrate this, here you can discuss the waterpark, memories, and post any photos you have spanning the three eras of the waterpark.

In this era of state of the art technology, it still beguiles me that KI enforces a 'no rivets" policy on swimsuits!

Trust me, there is a reason.

I'm going to be frank here, I never sun burn. Only once in the past four years have I got sun burned. (And I go there 24/7!)

I'm surprised that in this era of state of the art technology, that swimsuit manufacturers still would consider using rivets in the construction of them.

Kings Island's body slides (where this rule is enforced) have been there since the waterpark first opened. The hardness and durability of fiberglass have improved over the years, so strict enforcement might be more important for older slides.

Older slides lol! Soak City is a bunch of old slides... (This is not meant as an insult so SC but rather as a slight hint to CF to add a new slide complex soon)

One time I went to the water park back in its last season as Boomerang Bay. Then I didn't go again.

There are my water park memories.

I wear flip-flops when walking from slide to slide! B) Trust me on this, you should too.

For sure. That concrete is hot, hot, hot.

I take my boyfriend to Soak City, just so I can hear him whine like a little baby about how hot the ground is. I walk it barefoot, no problem.

It is a great water park it holds lots of memories for me, love the park for sure. Happy Days to the future of whatever Soak City will be .

Parasites, fungus, even tapeworm...

Fungus is a risk, but it can be mitigated with good hygiene and by using footwear in shower/changing areas.

Parasite infections are exceedingly unlikely at a waterpark with property treated water and hard surfaces. Beaches, even on the ocean, are much more worrisome in this regard.

By the way, you forgot to mention HPV (causing plantar warts). The risk seems to be low for most people, especially when taking precautions like using footwear in the most high-risk areas. Supposedly, most adults are already immune. Those worried should simply avoid going barefoot in public places.

The cleanliness of the park has a substantial effect on the risk of any infection. Severely overcrowded parks (like KI's Soak City) are a lot more worrisome than parks with a reasonable attendance limit that get sanitized nightly (like Disney's waterparks or Great Wolf Lodge).

The last time I was at KI's Soak City, the overpowering smell of disinfection byproducts ("chlorine smell") was enough to make me get out of there quickly. This is a sign of water that's excessively soiled.

Those horrible rubber mats that you have to stand on while you're waiting in line for a slide. They hurt like crap to stand on and they make the bottoms of your feet look like waffles. I now wear water shoes when visiting Soak City.

In 1993 my husband who was my boyfriend then, had rivets on the backside of his trunks. They said he could go down the slides if he turned them around. So he did and wore them backwards the rest of the day.

The last time I went was when Kings Island held an event for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts to spend the night in the Festhaus. We spent the first day in the park and the second day at the water park. It was still Boomerang Bay at the time. It rained right while we were leaving. I haven't been back since, I just like the park more.

Now, the procedure is that he must get a device for them, IIRC "Rivets", from Guest Services, or he will not be allowed to ride such an attraction.

BB1, who sports waterpark safe swimming wear at all times.

Alot has changed Nick, for Boomerang Bay, is long gone.

I wasn't sure which topic to post this ine, so this works.

Is anyone else getting concerned that the water temperature is going to be frigid for Memorial day weekend? The forecast doesn't look very promising for the sun to warm up the water.

Does Kings Island have heaters for the water?

^ Just get there early when the weather is bad, so that you can walk onto everything before it (likely) shuts down.

Very few guests attempt to visit KI's Soak City on cold and/or rainy days.

Cold water has been linked to boost testosterone.... so thats a plus....

I have no memories of KI's water park. Wait... I have one, doing the body board/wave/surf board ride....

My water park memories, however, are filled with Surf Cincinnati and the Beach....

Not to high-jack the thread but the Inter-tube rapids ride at Surf Cincinnati will be my #1 best memory maker second only to the water slides that ran parallel to the lazy river at Surf...

^ It can also mean that the waterpark closes early, or doesn't open at all.

Same thing with rain and other inclement weather.

I would think that they would use a day with low attendance to allow their lifeguards to gain some experience in a less overwhelming environment rather than just closing the waterpark.

That would be Pipeline Paradise.
