1950s "House of the Future" at Disneyland

Featured Replies

Found this on YouTube earlier :)

It's amazing how much of the "future" never came about!

A complete climate control apparatus? An oven without fire? Plastic silverware? Wireless, in-ear telephone? Closed-circuit television phones? I'd say it's equally astounding how much of the future did come to be!

EDIT: Now what DIDN'T come to pass, unfortunately, is a house with that view of Sleeping Beauty Castle! I'll keep dreaming, though.

watching that, its so interesting, could Disney or someone build the new house of the future today?

If the actual EPCOT came to be, it would have had a constant evolving neighborhood of the future. Companies would update each house with the latest innovations.

I can only speak for the Innoventions Dream House at Disneyland, but it is very up-to-date with the newest technologies from Microsoft. Actually, that's precisely the problem. Instead of being imaginative about the future, the house displays products that are cutting-edge, but available for purchase today - tables with touch-screen tops, X-Box Kinect, etc.

I don't really mind Innoventions all that much. Shocker, I know. It could certainly be better (I remember playing in Test The Limits Lab as a kid! Time for an update!), but at least they didn't ruin it.

I'm laughing at the speaker phone part ... it's amazing how much farther we've gone than that!

My favorite parts were the emphasis of plastic and the ultrasonic dishwasher.
