Carowinds 2013, do's and donts?

Featured Replies

Next year in 2013, I will be making the journey to Carowinds. So, from your experiences, what are the do's at Carowinds/Boomerang Bay? Thanks in advance!

Definitly give Intimidator a try, its a pretty cool coaster, and both Hurler and Thunder road are both decent coasters if you like wooden. As far as Boomerang Bay at Carowinds goes, in my opinion it is directed more towards "small" children and I didnt really find it all that great but there is a pretty good waterslide complex called Pipeline Peak and a large wave pool along with a few family rides. Honestly my favorite ride in the park was the inverted B&M coaster, Afterburn.

Afterburn was a great coaster. I enjoyed Hurler and Thunder Road, but at least when I rode them, they were both pretty rough. Also make sure to ride or Flying Eagles (Woodstock Gliders).

BB1, go to boomerang bay and have fun no matter what its like because Cedar Fair will eventually make it a Soak City.

I would suggest spending time on rides that Kings Island doesn't have. For example, riding Drop Tower is pointless. If you are going on a weekday in June, lines will be very short. Afterburn was my favorite coaster at the park. Considering your username, go to Boomerang Bay. As SonofBaconador said, it will probably be gone soon. I usually like wood coasters but Hurler was just rough. It is a high disappointment when you are used to The Beast. If you've never been on a stand-up coaster, Vortex would be fun to try. Other than that, just have fun! Carowinds isn't a hard park to fit everything you want to do in.

^What if he likes Drop Towers? Not to mention, their Drop Tower is not the same design as KI's.

I dont like Drop Towers, infact I dont like Drop Towers at all...

-When riding Thunder Road, do not ride in a 3rd row of any car...if you thought The Racer was rough in a wheel seat, it will seem smooth after Thunder Road in a #/3 seat. (based on 2011 experiences)

-On Hurler, don't let your back touch the seat behind you, and you will be fine.

-When looking for the flying scooters, keep in mind that they placed it in the kid area. You aren't riding it properly if you don't scare away at least one parent from the line with the way you fly.

Nighthawk is much better than Firehawk. It's not as long and has a different ending but the scenery and atmosphere is much much better than Firehawks dirt.

I thought it was a nice park when I went in 2011, getting a picture in front of the N. Carolina/S. Carolina sign is always a must. They also have this path way that has trees and branches that completely enclose it, I've never seen that before so I thought it was cool.

Intimidator is very good but not as good as Diamondback.

Agree with previous post on Afterburn, also hit Vortex and Intimidator plus the woodies. Caroline Goldrusher (their mine ride) is a hoot as well. When we were there Dads got souvenir glasses as well (for beer). 9.99 to buy, 5.99 to fill. Can't say there was a 'don't', we stayed a week and had an awesome time.
