September 6, 201213 yr Walt Disney World Resort has opened a new theme park around every ten years, Magic Kingdom in 1971, Epcot in 1982, Disney's MGM Studios(Disney's Hollywood Studios) in 1989, and Disney's Animal Kingdom in 1998. So it has been almost 14 years since we had seen a new park at Disney World. So do you guys think we will yet another park in the happiest place on earth or not.
September 6, 201213 yr They have the land to do so, but I'd be surprised. They have used 1/3 of their land. Another 1/3 of the land will never be developed on. So that's 1/3 land that can still be used.
September 6, 201213 yr It would be foolish to think that more parks are not on the table/ have been discussed. IMO we will not see a "new" Disney park for at least another decade. It appears to me the current direction is to renovate the current parks (Fantasyland) and add to the current parks (Pandora). On a side note: I would absolutely LOVE to be a fly on the wall in the meetings concerning the ideas for the additions/ ideas for the parks. Even the ideas that are shot down are probably phenomenal.
September 6, 201213 yr I'm not sure anyone wants to let go of the purse strings for such a project just yet. People are really having to budget their travel costs right now. The "Field of Dreams" tag line doesn't really work in a down economy ("If you build it, they will come... you know, if they can afford the gas, and if their discressionary income hasn't been compressed by inflation and drought-driven food price increases.)
September 6, 201213 yr Not to mention when Animal Kingdom opened back in 1998. It had a serious lack of a signautre E-ticket attraction. That changed with the addition of the Finding Nemo musical and obviously the addition of Expedition Everest. I think we will eventually see another park added to the mix. But I wouldn`t look for that to happen anytime soon. Remember, building a new theme park is an expensive proposition, and a big gamble. One has to hope that people are willing to pay and show up to experience the park. Additionally, the new park would have to offer something that guests can`t get at any of the four existing Disney theme parks and two water parks down in Florida.
September 6, 201213 yr Before Walt disney World gets a new park I see a 3rd gate/park at Anaheim at the Land. My opinion only of course. Think for now having 4 parks 2 water parks and host of other attractions in Florida is enough.
September 7, 201213 yr I would love to see another gate in Florida. Will the next one be a high end / concierge type like Seaworld's Discovery Cove?
