The actual quote was by sections, not piece by piece. If you're going to quote someone, let's try and get it right.

We will make some parts of the ride available to purchase (track, wood from the structure, bolts). Each of the items will be limited in quantity. We will let everyone know when they become available

Park officials were on the last train.

I can't get anything on Telly to play...any hints? Can someone post it here?

Looking at the people on the ground and the amount of time it took to fall really puts perspective on the sheer height and size of this ride! And does seeing the landscape and open area left make anyone else excited?

Well, El Toro @ SFGadv now officially has the record for largest wooden coaster drop in the world, since Son of Beast no longer has a drop... :P (Unless you count the air, in which case SOB now has the steepest drop of any wooden coaster ever built at straight down!)

I have the feeling SOB will be 100% gone, save perhaps some footers or so, by January 2013 now...which means plenty of time (a whole year and about 4 months in 2013) to build whatever is replacing it and have it ready for the 2014 season. (I too hope for an Intamin Wooden Coaster, possibly one above 200', but anything beats open field...)

McSalsa, you must have missed this:

The only part of the ride's structure that will still be standing by the end of the month will be the station, which will continue to be used for the Wolf Pack maze at Halloween Haunt.

^

Well, I stand corrected...I did miss that, thanks Terpy. Wow, for what was once a 218' tall, 7042' long wooden hypercoaster this ride is coming down fast...even faster than my above estimate...

^

You mean "Pick-Up Large & Heavy Sticks, Bulldozer Edition"?

OK, but where's my bulldozer? :P

I never understood the fascination with nor liked that game. I had no patience for it, not did I care about its goal.

Now, if bulldozers had been involved...

That was a pretty unbelievable video! Although, I find it much more excilerating to see them going up rather than coming down! I recall very clearly searching for any update I could find on the SOB during construction back in 99 (newspapers, nightly news updates, etc). Videos and pics weren't so readily available as they are these days (No Youtube, Twitter, KICentral, etc)! However, I never thought I would be searching for updates about it's deconstruction just 13 years later.

It may be a bit late for you, but...

Not my video, it's Coasterbob62's (apparently, he is now a member here on KIC now too, so say "hi" if you see him on here!). ;)

Oh I'm well aware of coasterbobs historical documentations, and have been for many years! I was working at the park during all of the prepping and planning for the SOB build, so I watched most of it go up in person.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there were coasters that went beyond "straight down" before "looping" back around and up? I know that wasn't your point per say, but I found one here:

Looks like a ton of fun to me.

Lots of loss in that area. Cobra had poor quality steel and SOB had poor quality lumber. Maybe we should hope for B&M just for the sake of reliability and longevity.

McSalsa was saying wood.

That coaster looks crazy fun!

When Son of Beast was announced, Jeff Seibert took great pride in announcing it would be constructed of engineered SunCor wood and run on polyurethane wheels. Neither came to pass, though a small bit of SunCor engineered wood was reputedly installed.

Cost cutting by Paramount Parks is the likely reason.

I loved in particular watching the supports crumble (shown in the final 4 shots Don provided). Thanks!

Don and Greg have really been great providing all of this for us! Now my 1 suggestion for Don is if that last section is a pull down, put a gopro cam on the top or inside a 55 gal half barrel in the fall zone catching it falling on top of it.

I doubt, in its current state, if the remaining structure is allowed to be inhabited.

OK Don, since I know you pay attention from time to time- how about scrap wood. How much would a flat of treated board cost to buy. I don't need a plaque or letter of authenticity. I don't particularly care about the nostalgia of it, if there is such a thing. Just inquiring about the availability of buying some >12' of board. I know that's blasphemy on this board but have home projects that surprisingly could benefit from the purchase of some 2X4 and 4X4's
