January 14, 201214 yr I just thought i'd make a new topic for the 40th anniversary to keep track of their progress in preparing for the anniversary and What are your memories from KI's past anniversaries? By the way if you look at their Diamondback-cam you can see that they already put stars up in the grass.
January 14, 201214 yr Those stars are just part of Snoopy`s Starlight Spectacular. They have nothing to do with the 40th anniversary. If past is any indication, the park won`t do much to celebrate. I don`t believe that they did anything special in 2007 for the parks 35th anniversary.
January 14, 201214 yr I hope the park puts some effort into the 40th Anniversary...the 40th is a bigger deal than the 35th. (In my opinion.) I hope they put some banners up around the park...the vinyl welcoming billboard over the entrance hopefully will hype this milesone. As for merchandise, I would like to see an anniversary snowglobe...at the VERY least a button. I could live without a new attraction this year if the park looks a little spruced up making it look special.
January 14, 201214 yr snow globe and some 40th stuff,,,I feel the 41st year they will add something!!! This park deserves it, top 10 in the seasonal parks....... Just the advertising would be incredible for the park happy 40th!
January 14, 201214 yr The best thing that I feel they can do, within reason and budget, is to restore The Racer to her former glory, as she was the flagship of the park 40 years ago. The old girl looks tattered and forlorn.

The old girl looks tattered and forlorn. I agree with you. but I as I do think The Racer is a great coaster and park original, It does still need a make-over. The appearence of the ride is becoming kind of pitiful.
January 14, 201214 yr How quickly they forget the Soak City additions, Terpy noted dryly. For me personally, an addition to Soak City is the equivelent of getting something new in the women's restrooms. I don't "do" the waterpark...but my family does so they will appreciate it.
January 14, 201214 yr I agree 100 percent that The Racer should be brought back to it's original glory. It was soley responsible for the popularity in roller coasters to be left looking the way it does. I'm sure with Don Helbig having something like 12,000 rides it has to eat at him to see it in this condition. I'll set myself up for a beating with this question but does it seem like it doesn't have the airtime it used to or am I just too heavy?
January 14, 201214 yr Weight has nothing to do with airtime, though available space to move does. The ride was much more ferocious in its younger, less restrained yet far more cushy days.
January 14, 201214 yr What else has changed? Like I said in the standing 3 feet from 74 thread the the final dip and head choppers were removed and trims have been added on the turn arounds but what else happened to slow it.
January 14, 201214 yr Track lubricant is no longer grease but rather graphite. Hard polyurethane foam for "cushioning." Modern restraint system, including seat dividers, seat belts, individually ratcheting lap bars and head restraints. Computer controlled braking levels. Greatly slowed lift hill chain. For a few....
January 14, 201214 yr Thanks, As much as I hate the smell of gear oil in cars I do miss the smell on roller coasters. I always slide down and push my gut out for clearance but I ussually get a visit from an overzealous ride operator that pushes the restraint down with all their weight.
