November 5, 201114 yr I was in line for for DB the last day and the 2 guys in front of me were clearly some kind of maintenance workers(they kept talking about random coworkers working on various rides etc.) and i heard them say that DB only runs if the temp is over 40 degrees. Random interesting thing to know.
November 5, 201114 yr I'd say not true. I'm pretty sure some of those haunt nights went below 40 and DB was up and running
November 5, 201114 yr Saturday night before closing day I would guess to say it was about 38 degrees and Diamondback was still operational and running.
November 5, 201114 yr I think that they meant in the mornings. They didn't open DB for ert Sunday till after 12 pm i believe. Those guys could of been ride ops too. The ride ops know that stuff as well.
November 5, 201114 yr They won't just stop DB at night when it's cold when it's still running during Haunt unless it breaks down. The ride was running all day and still should be warm wheel wise.
November 5, 201114 yr What I have been told is. The ride can not start until the temp is above 40. If the temp does fall below 40 after a couple hours of operation the ride can still function unless the temp falls below 30. This is just what I have heard.
November 7, 201114 yr Author actually i do think he was talking about opening it in the morning temps now that i think about their conversation as a whole
November 7, 201114 yr The cold makes the axels and wheels stiff on the trains I beleive. That's not all that gets stiff when it's cold - "maybe some things that are not on the trains, even" (said in my best Snagglepuss voice!)
November 7, 201114 yr I think it has more to do with the lubricants solidifying. AZ Kinda Guy, care to chime in?
November 7, 201114 yr The fluids would not be as viscous at low temperatures. Therefore the wheels would not be as lubricated and would need more force to overcome the friction.
November 10, 201114 yr Far as I know it's always been about temperature during startup. Once the ride is running it shouldn't matter. Always been the case with the other coasters, not sure why Diamondback would be different.
