What`s next for Son of Beast?

Featured Replies

King Cobra didn't really have an excessive amount of issues. At least, not compared to Bat, Crypt, or Son of Beast.

I just wanted to add some of my own sarcasm and absurdity to this thread. I feel better now...

I hope to ride it again as well. If not, I'd like to see another record breaker of some kind (and not one that gets owned by another coaster in the same year (DB vs. 305)) ... Ok. As promised. Last

    Wow man, your quite annoying.

When Togo closed King Cobra had no more replacement parts for breakdowns.

And then there's that whole "inferior steel" issue we're all forgetting...?

Parts can be made. Thus the continuance of the Canada and Virginia near clones and other, different style TOGO rides.

Whips operate to this day, and Mangels has been out of business for years.

Well isn't that ride a fail...

Seemed like a fun ride, wish I could have rode King Cobra though.

What was wrong with that ride?

(Here's me asking questions I could google)

It was a prototype, constructed of what turned out to be inferior Japanese steel, and suffered from metal fatigue. Offered for sale, after inspection, it found no buyer.

I never said The Crypt didn't have its problems. It did. I also never said that we would get an even bigger and thrilling Giant Top Spin in 2015... Everyone knows that's coming in 2016!

I think it would be great to see a more up to date stand up coaster in the park. I don't understand why we haven't had one since King Cobra was taken down, seeing as it was a very very popular ride.

I was lucky enough to just reach the height to ride it the year before it closed down and was taken apart.

Because they are no longer in demand. Stand ups were very popular, at the time, but were more of a gimmick that lacked lasting appeal.

The only way you would see a standup is if it was relocated from another park, they're out of demand. And coming from a guy, they're very unpleasant.

1980s: "Anyone who's anyone has a suspended coaster."

1990s: "Anyone who's anyone has a stand-up coaster."

1990s: "Anyone who's anyone has an inverted roller coaster."

2000s: "Anyone who's anyone has a record breaker*."

2010s: "Anyone who's anyone has a hypercoaster."

2020s: "Anyone who's anyone has...?"

* "Tallest, fastest looping blue** roller coaster in the Midwest for fifteen consecutive years!"

I think it would be cool if Kings Island Installed a B&M floorless roller coaster. Every time I go on vacation to Dorney Park or this year Kings Dominion, I have really enjoyed them and think they would be great at Cedar Point or Kings Island. We haven't had one in Ohio since Dominator left. What's also nice about them is most of them aren't that tall so I'm sure they cannot cost too much.

That is exactly it in a nutshell.

Stand-ups are/ were a gimmick. Most are not the most comfortable, are not desired, but still have a big price tag.

The industry loves fads, because that is what guests want. The last new stand-up was way back in '99 speaks volumes.

I'm a guy, but I LOVED Banshee Mantis! The trick with them is you stand shorter than they are, then stand up to full height after the restraints have locked in. Works like a charm!

Speaking of mantis I'm going later this summer and was wondering if it's hard on your knees?

If a "person" can save the queen you would think he would be able to save SOB. never rode a stand up coaster would like to try one.

^Ahhh, but what if you're athiest!

And if you don't want your "assets" to be hurt, do what I mentioned:

So your assets, should you be male, may depend on where your a@@ sits.

I see.

As for Mantis, enjoy. Or dare I say "Have a ball?"

I don't understand the whole "assets" thing - if we're referring to what I understand, how does a stand up hurt these assets?

The saddle makes violent collisions with one's nether regions. Like the OTSR's on sit down coasters do with one's neck. Acrophobia does the former, too; at SFOG.

You stand taller than the saddle on rides like Mantis, Skyrider, Shockwave, etc, so you don't hit the saddle, making for a much more comfortable ride.

King Cobra never bothered me,Mantis is another story.I have tried every way possible to postion myself to avoid injury to me assets,it never works. My family loves Mantis,so i gotta take one for the team every visit.
