July 28, 200323 yr They ended Winterfest before I was a PKI loyalist. I was just wondering what went on? Most rides can't operate in the winter (well, they can, but I'm sure they're no fun) so what were the attractions? I'll assume that they attracted people with shows, if so, what were they like? --Ryan
July 28, 200323 yr My dad says it was pretty much like all the shops on International street sold winter things and the fountain was frozen to ice scate on and the Ferris wheel was the only ride that was operating. I'm too young so this is from my dad don't like yell at me if my dad is wrong. And it was only like a dollor to get in that's awesome.
July 28, 200323 yr I remember Winterfest. It did have the fountain froze, and the effel tower was dressed up like a tree with lights. I remember seing maintainance brushing snow off The Vortex too.
July 28, 200323 yr The year i went there, Phantom Theatre and the Train were operating. There were shows in what is now the Paramount Theare and Festaus. An interesting thing about the ice skating is that you were allowed to bring your own skates into the park.
July 28, 200323 yr I was there the last year they had it. They had some Bengals giving away autographs. One of them let me cut in line. It might have been Harold Green.
July 30, 200323 yr I was a little kid when I went, but I remember that the area where the Flintstones bumper cars was frozen over for ice skating, as well as the fountains in the front. I also vaguely remember eating roasted nuts and drinking hot chocolate.
July 30, 200323 yr I wish that I could've experienced WinterFest. The Beach Water Park has something similar - so maybe PKI will not be interested in competing with them. Time will tell. If there were a "Winterfest" returned, FoF, SpongeBob Square Pants in 3D, the Eiffel Tower, Scooby Doo & the Haunted Mansion, and Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad would be the only rides that could operate. If you think about bad weather, one can hope that PKI will get more indoor rides in the future.
July 30, 200323 yr Here is a link to a Winterfest brochure. They only had part of the park opened during the winter, and the Eiffel Tower was also deemed as the world's largest Christmas tree (at just over 300 ft ) http://www.themeparkbrochures.com/1991/pki1991.html Winterfest Brochure
July 31, 200323 yr Author Hey, thanks for the info. Winterfest seemed like a good time, but I'm sure Fearfest is much better. --Ryan
July 31, 200323 yr Maybe they could make it better by making it a Festival of Lights like at the Cincinnati Zoo...that would draw in more people. Looking at the brochure, it wasn't made for thrillseekers or ride-lovers, but more the family to get into the Christmas spirit.
July 31, 200323 yr Yeah they should have it like the zoo does it would be awsome with lights all over the park and it would bring in a lot of people.I miss Winterfest soo much it was very neat when I was a kid and went.
