Vortex Restraints

Featured Replies

Has anyone else found that on Vortex that even after the ride has started youcan push up the restraints? The last time me and my friend pushed up and the restraints went to a point of an extra 2 inchs.

Well, you can still push them back down and also it was not out of trying to mess up the ride, it was purley an accident from when I was pushing a little.

Yes, that would be a terrible thing to hapen. Also, i'm surprised this problem has not come to the attention of the park.

i have noticed that going up the hill the restraints do go up a bit but i have never had an issue with the restraints after cresting the first hill.... no more movement.....

one time i pushed up on the restraint while leaving the station and it went all the way up. scared the hell out of me. thank god it locked when i pulled it down again

Being a larger man and a little long legged as well, I perfer The Vortex restraints over the FOF ones.

I hope they never switch to lap bars a la FoF on Vortex. Those lap bars kill my legs, and that's only after I barely squeeze it over my knees. Vortex's restraints have been the same since 1989 (except the seatbelts) and they've yet to lose a passenger. As far as I'm concerened, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Don't even speak of those awful restraints. Every time those crunch down onto the forbidden areas I wonder, Why? Is it truly necessary? Why?

I love the Flight of Fear restraints, despite being almost like coffins, they aren't uncomfortable and cause little pain for me, but then again, I'm not the one who makes the 76257 feel small!

I like Vortex's restraints. At least they're not HUSS! :)

I don't think I would ever ride Vortex again if they had those awful Huss restraints.

I will say this about Vortex though, the seats need some padding of some kind.

Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure. All the Six Flags Arrow's have those type of OTSRs. I wonder why?

Because once upon a time a long time ago at a Six Flags park, a patron exited the train to go to the bins on the exit side, the restraints were checked and the patron (we can't say rider) wanted to be a rider and attempted to get in the leaving train and sat on top of the restraint. Somehow, this was unnoticed by the ride operators. The patron did not successfully return to the station. And all Six Flags Arrow coasters at the time with OTSR's like those got those big loops attached to the outside, so you cannot sit above the restraint.

Someone reading this may doubt this. Here's a vague reference to the incident:

...Sadly, a few accidents occurred on at Six Flags parks in the 1980's. In 1987 a woman was killed on the Lightin' Loops shuttle coaster. The operator did not check all of the restraints and the passenger fell out and was killed. ...
(sic as to ride name)

[six Flags America, that portion of Lightnin' Loops last operated in 1998. Lightnin' Loops was actually split in two rides, the other portion is Diamond Back at Frontier City in Oklahoma]

In Oklahoma, Diamond Back, a former Lightnin' Loops portion, still has those loops on the restraints, by the way. Fifth photo here:

That's only logical, since it is part of the old Lightnin' Loops, and operates in what was once a Six Flags Theme Parks park, though it was never a "flagged" property. The park no longer belongs to Six Flags.

Similar Arrow restraints in other park chains and parks got yellow tape or some other indicator so it would be very, very, very obvious that a rider was in fact sitting under and not atop the restraint.

And that GASM you showed? Many of those who are accustomed to riding Vortex find it very, very rough and painful. Many of those who are accustomed to riding GASM find Vortex at KI to be very, very rough and painful.
