Holiday World lines?

Featured Replies

My family is planning on making a trip up to Holiday World on either Monday or Tuesday this week, it's going to be my first time going there. Since many of you have been there before, what do you think lines will be like? And also, should i goto The Voyage first? Any info will help, Thanks.

Standard disclaimer that no one knows how crowded the park is going to be, etc. etc.

Ok onto my advice:

-Halloween is the most crowded in the morning

-Thanksgiving is the least crowded in the morning

-Baukuli, Zoombabwe and Zinga will have waits in excess of 45 min after the first half hour of operation in Splashin Safari

-With the exception of those three rides, the rest of the slides will be walk ons during the last 2-3 hours of water park operations

-Halloween is the least crowded in the early afternoon

-4th of July will also be the least crowded in the early afternoon

As to weither or not you want to Voyage first, well that's a difficult question. Going from a strictly utilitarian viewpoint the answer is unquestionably yes, however that ride is without a doubt one of the greatest wooden coasters (nay coaster period) ever built and it will color your opinion of Legend and Raven (which are pretty darn good rides but still dont hold a candle to Voyage.) My personal advise is, if the park looks like its going to be crowded at opening do Voyage first, and then do the rest of Thanksgiving and be ready to do the "big three" slides of Splashin Safari right at its opening. Then, do the Raging River Raft ride, 4th of July flats, Frightful falls and then hit the Raven and the Legend. However, if it looks like the park is going to be dead, do the Raven first, then Legend then Voyage.

Also one more word of warning, HW does a hard close which means the coaster lines close early so keep an eye on the lines as closing comes near.

Raven will be long early in the day because it's like people start heading that way and just stop at the first thing they come to. If it's got a line, trust me, leave it and go back later.

We went on Tuesday and followed this idea. Raven was listed as a 45 minute to 1 hour wait and had a completely full exterior queue. We waited about 30 minutes for Legend as our first ride in the morning 20 minutes after park open, about half of it's exterior queue was filled. We then went to Voyage and waited about 30 minutes there also, through a small portion of it's lower queue. 2 hours later, Raven was a complete walk-on, as was Legend. Voyage dropped through the day to about 10 minutes.

When the water park opens, there will be a huge exodus to it, leaving most of the park empty throughout the day, though the crowds will somewhat return, at least to Voyage, when it closes. Strangely, some of the longest waits we had during the day were for Rough Riders (bumper cars) and Liberty Launch! If it gets cold or slightly rainy, the water park and Pilgrim's Plunge will suddenly empty out. Keep an eye on PP's line all day and if you see it short, grab it right then because it is usually a 1 hour wait. We snagged it when it was just starting to sprinkle as a walk-on.
