Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad

Featured Replies

The train was my favorite ride at Coney Island and I still ride it every time I'm at Kings Island. I would like to have it not be a ride to BB but an attraction itself. By the way when and why did they change the Golden Lamb?

Really? Golden lamb changed that much, that is a Great Miami Valley/Ohio Valley institution and always so yummy on the tummy.

The only photo I have of the building when it was known as the Golden Lamb is from 1977:

The earliest photo I can find of the same building as the Mary Rose Inn is from 2001:

(Sorry you can't really see the sign in this pic, but I guarantee it's the MRI)

So that's a 24 year period - far from the exact date you were probably seeking :P I'm also not much help as for why it was changed - my best guess was the original sign was worn and its replacement was opportunity to do something new.

I just noticed it had been changed a few years ago, I usually sit on the right side.

Sorry for the bump.

I been to Kings Island two times this past week and the train has been down or having problems. Anyone know what's going on?

Bum deal. It's a cute ride for a break. My dad always had to ride it when we went,

I was on blue last week and it could not make it to Soak City. We got to the bear and it stopped. We sat for about 5 min. and rode the train in reverse to the bridge. The it went forward very slowly to Soak City.

Ben Mang, an engineer, told me that #12 is the first of the two built and is the most powerful. However, seeing that it was the first one built, it had some flaws that were tweaked when they built #19. I know there is a 1/2 grade somewhere along the track but it seems like both locomotives have problems occasionally on that crossing section of track.

A little insight on the KI engineers.

Green was not running, it was blue all day

Can you say this for sure? I swear I saw a green smokestack more than once.

Yes I am 100% sure, we rode the train twice, and the conductor made a comment about green being lazy, and in the engine house all day, just because people saw blue sitting in SC as per the video above, doesnt mean blue is the problem. If one train is down I'd imagine the other cant move

How could you have seen a green smoke stack? They're both black except for the brass on #12. The green engine is ordinarily the first of the two out during the day and normally the last one to be put away if both operate on the same day.

Seems they've worked out any issues they might have had. Both engines were running yesterday.
