Classic footage of The Bat and other KI rides

Featured Replies

Found this on Youtube while looking to see if the KI commercial mentioned in another thread is out there. Really nice video...

Ok... For those familiar with older KI rides, what ride is shown starting about 15 seconds into the video?

The Flying Dutchman..you sat in 'wooden shoes' and spun around. It was in the Octoberfest area which used to be much bigger.

This is a great footage..The Bat looks pretty sweet..I imagine it was quite the thing in its day

And that ride can now be found at Kentucky Kingdom. It is the exact same ride that was at Kings Island. . .

While it's good to see that it's still operational, does anyone know why it was removed and sold in the first place? Wikipedia and flatrides.com both say that the ride lasted until sometime in 1992, but RCDB says AE opened in 1991, so it couldn't have been removed for AE.

My mom's favorite ride at KI when she was little was the Flying Dutchman. We went to KK this past fall and she rode that ride there. I just told her that they were the same ride and she got so excited. I didn't know that. Good find with the video. I love watching The Bat. It looks so out of control and really fun.
