May 4, 200917 yr ...It does not do you a lot of good to wash your hands and then open the door with the same hand. You need a barrier like a towel. That is why having just hand blow dryers is useless in many cases.... http://voices.washingtonpost.com/parenting...ml?hpid=topnews And this is the year Cedar Fair has removed many towel boxes and replaced them with driers. Some of the restrooms have doors...others do not. How is one to open the door after using the drier? Just a thought...
May 4, 200917 yr I just push with my elbow or side, but the offer to take a paper towel instead of using a hand dryer should still be provided, in my opinion.
May 4, 200917 yr I always opt for a paper towel as an option when available - I then use it to turn off the faucet (since you turned it on with dirty hands) and open the door if there is a door. I hate it when I go into a gas station restroom and it has hand driers only. I've been known to use toilet paper as a barrier between my hand and the door knob or sink taps. Holiday World's restroom doors were designed correctly - you had to pull the door open to enter, but could open it from the inside with a shoulder, meaning you don't have to touch a dirty handle with clean hands. They also had a choice of paper towels or hand dryers in most restrooms, but some only had hand dryers.
May 4, 200917 yr Author One thing I hate even more is the great number of people I see using the facility and then not washing their hands AT ALL. If there is a doorknob, these people use their hands to open it. They also touch other things throughout the park (or office or restaurant or what have you). ICK!
May 4, 200917 yr I don't really want to think about what lives on the restraints of coasters. You've got people who haven't washed their hands after the restroom touching them, people who have sneezed on them, people who have vomited on them ... on Diamondback they just washed the train out with a hose, though on most coasters they do spray it with a disinfectant afterward.
May 4, 200917 yr Author The restraints on Firehawk, Nighthawk and Batwing are probably the worst in that regard. By season's end, they literally reek of perspiration and terrible body odors. No other restraints are quite so gross, at least none I have encountered...
May 4, 200917 yr I have swine flu! Hello Sammy...... you never seem to disappoint me you just keep coming back.
May 4, 200917 yr Nice response time from the admins... I reported one of his posts and less than 20 minutes later, they're gone
May 4, 200917 yr Author A point here...always report, do NOT respond to these trolls....they live on that...Not only that, but after the posts are deleted, it makes me look even sillier than usual! See what is now post 7, which looks to respond to my post 6, after the old post 7 by our not lovable Sammy was deleted. Especially given the ^ in the thing...Sigh
May 5, 200917 yr The same could be said of every public place. For example, holding the rails on an escalator, pushing an elevator button, pushing open the door of a mall or department store, pumping gas, etc. I won't even mention handling cash.....
May 5, 200917 yr Author Nah, and some of what I do post is doubtless garbage to some. One person's garbage is another's treasure....and when you post as much as I do, there's apt to be some pearls cast amongst the swine that otherwise flu.
May 5, 200917 yr I hate to think about all the nasties out there; however, I have read that our obsession with cleanliness can also break down our resistance to disease...so I guess to find a good balance is the key. I think the best thing to do would be to wipe down the restraints and such nightly. I usually wash my hands periodically throughout the day at the park anyway, restroom or not.
May 5, 200917 yr The people who don't wash their hands don't NEARLY bug me as much as the people who spit on rides, especially ones like Drop Zone, where it could end up hitting you.
