March 18, 200917 yr I think everyone will enjoy this one. 1972 Kings Island Grand Opening video. No sound - just video. Copy of a VHS tape from a film - don't have the original film though. And whoever did the copy to tape before did it backwards. You'll see what I mean. At the end there is good aerial footage of the park during the opening celebration. http://interthemepark.com/about/kingsisland.htm (forgot the link before - this is a new video on the page that has the construction video - see bottom of page.) I'm working on getting the quality of the video hopefully better, but for now, enjoy! Shawn
March 18, 200917 yr EDITED: Thanks for putting in the link, Shawn. We REALLY appreciate your doing this. The videos are GREAT. Terpy
March 18, 200917 yr That was cool, seeing all the employee costumes, though I'm glad they don't look like that anymore! Also cool seeing the balloon release and fireworks.
March 18, 200917 yr Thank you for posting this!!! I searched for this video pretty hard about 9 years ago with no luck. I only have a few min of raw footage that I was able to turn up. Thanks again! ~Josh
March 19, 200917 yr Author I think I've got the quality up a little bit. probably the best it can get right now.
March 19, 200917 yr This video is like holding up a mirror to the past. Get it, everything in it's reversed, like in a mirror? Oh, I give up... And we thought 2008 was the year for nostalgia... I'm starting to think we were wrong. Something old, something new... Another great piece of history!
March 19, 200917 yr Very nice! Awesome footage of the grand opening of dnalsI sgniK! Look at all those balloons!!
April 10, 200917 yr great video wow what a find, love this video we should put it to some music, ,,,,
April 11, 200917 yr Oh I remember that day very much! As a member of the Kings High School Marching Band, I marched in the grand opening parade, and also the opening of Kings Island Drive. It was a very fun day as you could see. I did not start working there until June in 72 and that litter gitter in the video brough back memories. I remember wearing those white shirts, white pans, white golf hat and the dreaded black hush puppies. We had lots of fun working there, as we do even to this very day. Kings Island is a very great place to work at and meet lots of good friends.
April 11, 200917 yr wow, that was an amazing video, and i thought it was really cool to see everything being constructed and seeing so much undeveloped land around the first attractions.
April 11, 200917 yr I haven't commented in this thread because that is so special that I don't know what to say. I still remember the park in its early days and how it felt like such a "magical" place when I was 3 years old. Now I'm 40, and my children are older than that, and the feelings I had about Kings Island in 1972 have never gone away.
