Coaster Question

Featured Replies

I have read the terms of service and know what not to do...so my topic is only a ?. Is Diamondback a safe coaster for a beginning coaster enthusiant?

It should be fine, If you think you can tolerate a coaster. Just go on it, the worse that can happen is you don't like it.

Is it safe? All rides in the park are safe.

Are you asking if this would be the best choice for a beginner who is new to roller coasters? If so I would tell you to ride in the following order if you're at KI:

Adventure Express

Flight Deck

Racer

BLSC

The Beast

Vortex

Son of Beast

Flight of Fear

Invertigo

Firehawk

Diamondback

You could also throw in The Fairly Odd Coaster and Runaway Reptar from Nick towards the top of the list if you choose.

First of all welcome and thanks for posting!

I would think DB would be pretty intense for a "beginner" so I would follow the list above except myabe SOB. It has a reputation for being rough and will probably feel pretty unsafe to a beginner so maybe save it for later too. If drops are the scary part for you hit Fairly Odd coaster after Adventure Express (it's a kiddie ride but has enough of a drop to feel in the stomache). My wife hates drops but loves Flight of Fear. It's a fairly dark inside ride with inversions and a quick launch to start but my (typically terrified of coasters) wife loved it the from the first ride.

Enjoy!!!!!!

I have to concur...NOT a beginners coaster at all!!

Granted no coaster of any kind scares me now, back when I rode Nitro for the first time in May 07 (my first B&M hyper, but after having ridden everything at KI), I was intimidated! I turned out to love it!

But to go from no coaster experience to D-back?? Umm...yeah, go for it!?! Are you afraid of heights? One of my ex-girlfriend's first coaster was TTD!! She claimed coasters didn't scare her, and she wasn't scared riding it at all, but everyone's different.

I think just by virtue of asking, the answer is no.

I'm not so sure Diamondback wouldn't be a good ride to start with. A friend of my had never ridden anything other than kiddie coasters, and we were able to coax her on Millennium Force, which set her up for a great day enjoying the other coasters at Cedar Point. On another occasion, I was with my friend on his first roller coaster ever, Magnum XL 200. While he doesn't particularly enjoy roller coasters, he's been adventurous enough to try other rides like Vortex at KI.

In my experience, starting at the top keeps people in the mindset of "Well, it can't get much worse than that, so I might as well give some other coasters a try." Starting from the bottom can lead to a mindset of "If this small coaster was so bad, a bigger one can only be worse."

I dont know, I built Diamondback in RCT2 and it had an intensity rating of 14.7, a naseua rating of 9.9 and an excitment rating of 1.8. I dont think its going to be a very safe ride at all. All my guests were puking all over the place, and meanwhile all my handymen were just mowing grass!

I do not think Diamondback would be a good choice to start with either. But i guess it depends on what your fears are. If you fear heights, start out with Adventure Express or Flight Deck. If you are scared of speed start out with The Racer or Rugrats Runaway Reptar. My personal starter would be The Racer. It is a fun filled woodie with tons of airtime which will get you broken into the negative g's as well. Then i would move on to BLSC, and then go onto something like The Beast. Once you get past those you can move on to the bigger coasters.

I'm surprised you had peeps riding it at that intensity rating! I always had people walk up, have their jaws drop and their hair stand on end, and run away when I built coasters with intensity that high.

Maybe and maybe not.

On my first trip to Cedar Point 3 years ago, the first coaster I jumped on was Millennium Force simply because I saw it and was instantly drooling. I ended up scaring the living garbage out of myself (MF's first hill is a staggering 310 feet!). But - I ran back and rode it again. MF destroyed my fear of heights and rendered me fearless.

I would suggest, as some others have, that you ride a few other coasters first before jumping on the park's tallest coaster.

Ride DB first! I was terrorfied as a kid of roller coasters and would only ride the smaller ones at CP and even those I had to be dragged on the first time. Then one day after some peer pressure I was dragged onto Magnum (I think it was still the tallest then or close to it). After that I felt like well I've done the biggest and the baddest and I loved it so I have no reason to be scared of any other ride.

I have never been scared of a thrill ride since and have become a bit of a dare devil too skydiving cliff diving etc...

I never understood why some rides on RCT2 weren't that exciting. I would love to ride some of the rides i created. I guess those guys in RCT2 are just a bunch of wusses.
