October 20, 200718 yr Not being old enough to have visited Coney before Kings Island was built I always wandered where exactly the midway started, today there really isn't a midway, just different areas. I've always been curious where exactly the old midway was (probably ending somewhere in riverbend) I don't think there are any park maps in existence of old Coney is there?
October 20, 200718 yr Does THIS help? http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coast...img/ci_cin1.jpg http://members.aol.com/y2coasters/coneyohio.html
October 20, 200718 yr Not much remains of the mall. Moonlite Gardens served as one terminus of the mall. The Carousel, Scream Machine and Tilt A Whirl all reside on what used to be the mall. Additionally, the LaRosa`s building across from the Dodgems and Golf also used to front the Mall.
October 20, 200718 yr Which I never, ever heard called the mall, until recently. It was called the midway. Even at Kings Island, that section of the park was called the Coney Island Midway in 1972 when the park opened. When Coney started its rebirth, Kings Island had an interesting problem on its hands. So, in 1986, the Coney Mall designation appeared. Ironically, many believe the Thor group used a proposed Coney Mall as a threat to get approved the development plan in the area of Astroland at Coney Island in Brooklyn. http://www.coneyisland.com/cgi-bin/yabb/Ya...;num=1176525752 If Coney Island of Ohio ever became a highly attended regional park again, I bet the Coney Mall area of Kings Island would quickly and quietly be rethemed.
October 22, 200718 yr If you watch the history of Coney Island video that the park sells, it refers to the midways as malls. Makes me wonder if it was an industry term.
