  1. I think WinterFest 2025 was great! As far as rides, pretty decent lineup. I had a rare opportunity to marathon FoF a few times on slow nights. Because of that, I've ridden FoF more times during this WinterFest than at any other point period. Racer being open is an absolute win. Some of my best rides on Racer have been taken during WinterFest. And it runs amazing! Mystic Timbers is always a blast. I absolutely love our train, but going with what @SonofBaconator said, they really either need to retheme the experience or add , like, a lot more lights. As far as food, I was able to get quite a bit of the seasonal meals. Per the advise of @DonHelbig, I was finally able to try the much acclaimed Holiday Meatloaf Burger. And it really did live up to the hype! The Meatloaf Burger is a top 10 food item at Kings Island. I also tried the Honey Ham & Cheese fries from Potato Works and they were pretty good. The Mac & Cheese bar at Enrique's is always awesome and hope it sticks around. As far as lights, the park looked amazing as it always does! Kudos to everyone involved with setting up all the lights and decorations. On the subject of the Holly Jolly Trolly, good riddance! Yes it was something to do. But on busy nights it would crazy walking through Coney Mall and trying to avoid the path of the trolly. Overall, WinterFest was great and I can't wait for April!

I think you answered your own question. Once the waterpark closes each day, families tend to vacate KK. In the past, that left the later hours predominantly filled by teens. And its no secret that KK has had more than its share of "issues" with teens in the park. I'm sure its a multi-tiered decision, but I guarantee that was a large factor. As for "theme park" vs "amusement park" - its pretty clear what the Herschend strategy is with this park. Just watch their latest construction video (part 1) - skip to the thirty second mark.
  3. As a hat collector, im hoping to see a Phantom Theater Opening Nightmare hat in the gift shops, if they hadn't already sold them yet. Also a nice Racer hat, The Bat, and Sol Spin hat would be nice to see. I was surprised to see a Flight of Fear hat this year, I would like to see more rides featured on KI hats.
  4. Anymore, innovations are mainly with the trains themselves: 4D, spinning, flying, lay down, stand up, swinging, etc. In theory you could clone a layout like Banshee’s and modify it for flyer trains and you’d get a completely different experience.
  5. To an extent, yes, I don't know if difficult is the word because innovative stuff is readily available -- the parks are just so risk averse. It may not be as cost effective on paper in the short term to risk an innovative attraction. The big parks could buy S&S Axis coasters, RMC T-Rexes, or Mack Xtreme Spinners, they just don't. Instead they put in the reliable but fairly vanilla B&Ms. The result is that people are pleased but not wowed. "Pleased but not wowed" seems to be the industry trend of the last 15 years or so. By playing it safe the parks actually run the the risk of becoming stale. Innovation was always required in the past rather than optional.
  6. I have to agree with you on this (although from the perspective of someone much younger). It's much more difficult for parks to design and build anything "new" these days without breaking the bank or being gimmicky. We're still dealing with the results from the Coaster Wars as well, so a lot of enthusiasts still have expectations that can never feasibly be met. I think Kings Island in particular could innovate more by adding advanced theming to their new rides until they are back in a position to install another "first of its kind" or similar.
  7. I think a lot of the issues of security/fights/etc. happened later in the evening. While these issues could happen at any time, it seems as if the later it is, the more severe the issues become. So trying to keep it "family friendly," by reducing the risk of issues later in the evening.
  8. Can you expand more on how changing the hours helps to define a park more as a "family theme park" as opposed to an "amusement/thrill park"? Is it in the fact that families might leave earlier in the night compared to those who go to an amusement park? The line between "amusement park" and "theme park" is very blurry at this scale of company. The new Six Flags lists all of their parks as "theme parks", despite only having a few that could actually qualify with Canada's Wonderland, Fiesta Texas, Kings Dominion, and Kings Island. A few other SF parks could probably also qualify for the title (maybe CePo and Caro) but the Six Flags brand is pretty much "generic amusement park". Other regional parks like Dollywood and other pre-Palace Herschend parks definitely qualify because of their abundant theming, but they also have similar lineups to the Busch parks in terms of balancing theming with thrills.
  9. I felt like something was missing, but then again we were down a ride with the Phantom Theater revival. Overall I don’t feel like much was different which was somewhat of a negative for me personally. The train ride needs to be worked on for next season- they continue to do the bare minimum and it’s gotten increasingly stale….
  10. Das Festhaus at Busch Gardens Williamsburg still serves German food along with more accessible options like pizza. It's interesting that Cincinnati's German heritage and the popularity of the various area Oktoberfest events doesn't translate to the tastes of Kings Island guests.
  11. I'd personally like to see Panda Express moved elsewhere. I agree that it doesn't necessarily need to have German food... though it IS in the last visages of Oktoberfest and IS in a German themed building. the smell of Panda Express is nauseating and overwhelming when entering the main entrance. Keep LaRosas, but I'm not sure why a place that served: Bratwurst, currywurst, weisswurst, schnitzel, roasted meats, potato specialties, etc.... wouldn't go over well... AND be a MUCH more pleasant smell upon entering. Most of those things are relatively easy to cook.... less overhead. It would NEVER work, but I always thought that it would be interesting to see what could happen if Hofbrauhaus took it over for a season and had the lively atmosphere that they have along with German-themed entertainment instead of, what is usually, a "music review." I would thin year #1 would go over because it would be something new... and something most have never seen.
  12. Currently working on an Old Coney redesign for Coney Mall and am looking for some suggestions. So far I'm looking for a good way to make this path junction less awkward. One of my ideas was to remove Jukebox Diner (moving any restaurant needs into an expanded/replaced KillMart building) and create a new small area with something in the center. The largest issue that I'm finding with that is that it doesn't address the fact that a two-path midway is jarringly cut into a one-path midway between the game building and KMAA. Unfortunately, I think the best option would be to realign the midway to have it continue the trajectory of the rest of Coney Mall (outlined in white). This would fix most of my issues but would also require so many large trees to be removed. I'm slowly talking myself into the latter option more and more. The park has already lost so much of its natural shade. Part of the charm of the older sections of Coney Mall and all of Candy Apple Grove comes from the trees and all of the stuff they have along the midway. The current (peach) and former (green) pathways of this area. My initial redesign, leaving the trees while requiring the demolition of Jukebox Diner. The "perfect alignment" option, requiring the removal of Jukebox Diner and the large trees while fixing the path issues. Shake, Rattle & Roll would become the new southern viewpoint — a role formerly occupied by the Action Theater plaza and WindSeeker until the pathway was bottle-necked. A new dining location would take the place of Kill Mart and the functionality of Jukebox Diner. This might even be a good spot for my Moonlite Gardens dream with its nearly 15,000 square feet of available space. The games building would be moved to be in the middle of the new alignment. A new activity (maybe a stage?) would be built in the remaining area left by JbD's demolition and new restrooms would be built between the 3-Point shot and the new activity. Vortex's plot would be filled with a Vekoma Ghostrider launch coaster sporting a more 1980s-ish "classic" theme as opposed to anything like the cyber-themed thrill glider coming to Magic Mountain or Siren's Curse at Cedar Point. I'd like it to have a launched lift hill (like Maverick) with chaser lights to pay homage to Vortex. The pink is an existing associate break area for anyone wondering.
