  1. Maestro cordially invites you to step inside the Phantom Theater on a stormy night for the grand (and ghostly) opening of a long-awaited performance at Kings Island! No Legs Larry, the Phantom Theater’s legendary usher, needs YOU to help seat the audience. But beware…just before the show, a lightning strike has released supernatural ghost notes from Maestro’s famed pipe organ and they’ve run amok throughout the theater. The entire cast is calling on you to return them back to the organ before the curtain can rise! Riding in enchanted opera boxes and armed with interactive spellbound flashlights, journey through haunted hallways, magical dressing rooms, and wild backstage chaos to capture the ghost notes before they ruin the show. Along the way, meet unforgettably familiar vaudeville stars, dodge a firing cannon, and witness operatic shrieks that shatter mirrors. Will you save Maestro’s masterpiece in time for the show? Only one thing's certain: in the Phantom Theater, all the world’s a stage, and ghosts love a good encore! https://www.visitkingsisland.com/new-in-2026
  2. All I want is them to have Maestro playing the organ in the queue again and PLEASE NO FUN TV'S IN THE QUEUE!!!!
  3. On the Sally Corporation website it does say there will be animatronics in the ride as well, so it's not going to be a completely screen based ride!
  4. Quick thoughts because I'm freaking the heck out, but I've also had an hour to reflect on it: - 99% of my fears were relieved when they said there's multiple animatronics in this, especially that Lionel Burymore gets one, he's so underrated. Hopefully there's a few more characters that aren't listed that make a cameo in this. - I think two things are true: 1. The design of Maestro looks off and it'll take time to get used to. 2. The original animatronics looked like they were melting even during construction, so I think it's not horrible. I'm very curious if AI was used to make the promo art. It looks like it might be to me, but I'm optimistic it's not. The designs will look better in person I'm sure . - I wonder if the track will be extended/a preshow will be added. The release says there's 26 scenes, and even in Boo Blasters saying there's 20 scenes in the ride is generous. Considering it hasn't been used the past year, it wouldn't be shocking if the track was extended into that space, or maybe even use some of the space in the original theater scene (I'd be SHOCKED if the pepper's ghost effect returns in any actual way during the ride considering the flashlight aspect.) It's my hope though that the Maestro animatronic stays in the queue and no screens are placed there. - I'm split about the shooting aspect, because on one hand the musical note ghost bit sounds childish, but also when I zoomed in to see what they looked like, they made me laugh with how stupid they looked, so I think it could be silly. -I hope they keep the original music, even if it's a new recording. It's just so iconic to me, and I hope it makes an appearance. - The name is perfect, I'm glad they didn't use "Phantom Theater:Return of the revenge of the Maestro" I'm sure I'll have more to say tonight when I'm done with work, be those are my initial thoughts. I have some fears, but honestly just really happy people will know these characters again.
  5. How did they not use #whatsinthetheater
  6. From the release: “Along the way, the enchanted opera boxes travel through fully built dimensional scenes, including backstage areas, haunted hallways, dressing rooms and a fiery boiler room as they meet other performers who are ready to take the stage. From animatronic forms of Houdelini and The Great Garbanzo to Hilda Bovine and Lionel Burymore, the Phantom Theater’s beloved crew returns, getting caught in the chaos while guests simultaneously search for the ghost notes. New surprises await guests around every corner, including the introduction of Arpeggio, Maestro’s furry feline friend. In total, 26 interactive scenes feature added multi-sensory effects like wind and sound, hidden Easter eggs throughout and a grand on-stage musical finale with all cast members. Manufactured by Sally Dark Rides, the leader in indoor family dark ride experiences, Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare is a true nod to the original that made its home at Kings Island from 1992 – 2002.”
  7. One thing fingers crossed is for the Maestro returns to booth! (I hope they don't leave it empty for the new attraction.)
  8. 100% agree here. This attraction seems to the be most reasonable compromise between what the old die hard PT fans wanted and also what the GP and average guests want. Alot of kids love the shooting aspect of boo Blaster so realistically it was a stretch to think that was ever going away. I agree that it can make a ride more re-rideable especially if the story isn't Disney caliber. I for one view this as a win - it should be better than boo Blaster. Will it be as good as the original PT? Probably not but hey it probably never was going to be that good and frankly the original was not built for the screen addicted generation of kids we have today. This ride will be more popular amongst families than if they brought back a carbon copy of the original
  9. I'm very happy with this. I love that we're getting something that is unique and a throwback to the park itself and not just IP.
  10. I do find this exciting, while disappointed that the "shooter" aspect will remain. I'm hopeful for the tech/storyline can hold up year after year (I think it will, but have seen how BBOBH went downhill after several years). The storyline seems solid and I'm excited to see how it expands the original.
  11. Here we go… https://www.instagram.com/reel/DN5rm8RAaGi/?igsh=aHYzbHF0ejFidDUz
  12. The New for 2026 page has the story added to it. https://kicentral.com/new-in-2026/
  13. Just confirmed that Richard Doyle (voice of maestro) is still living. Would be dream come true to have him back to record new dialogue for the ride
  14. I'm honestly wondering what the exterior is going to look like. Will they keep the Castle and dress it up to look like an old opera house like Music Hall? Will they remove the Castle and make the entrance like how it was for the original Phantom Theater? Will they move the entrance to just the right of the exit and make it more on International Street instead of Planet Snoopy? This is interesting to see. I'm honestly leaning towards they'll keep the entrance where it is right now and strip the castle and put up a theater looking building. If so, I'm hoping they remove the stone bridge and put in a pathway that looks like the entrance to a theater.
  15. I feel like that got put on the backburner indefinitely if it was planned to go in the crypt. I think the Conjuring will be in the Crypt for at least a few seasons. Now Usually, I would think since we're getting a smaller addition in 2026, that 2027 would be a major addition (kinda like how we got antique cars in 2019 then Orion in 2020). However, with the financial state of Six Flags right now, it wouldn't shock me if the 2027 capital are just postponed 2026 additions (ie Great Adventure launch coaster, Carowinds super flume, Magic Mountain thrill glider etc) and KI likely just gets park improvements or a small flat ride and then 2028 is the big year for KI. Now, I could see 2027 being our year if we end up losing Invertigo and Congo at the end of the season, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
  16. I am old enough to remember, as a very young kid, Enchanted Voyage and was bummed when it was gone. I was never a big Smurf fan, so I enjoyed being inside in a/c on a hot day with that version. I grew up with Scooby but always wanted Phantom back. I absolutely loved Phantom Theater. I think it speaks volumes to all who cherished rides on Phantom Theater that the park decided to bring a new version back. Cannot thank them enough for recognizing the love for the original. Now just bring back my Flying Eagles...ha! I wish! It was totally unique to KI and I am so happy that that will continue again.
  17. I think that interactive element is here to stay...that's what the kids seem to want. Disney has several of them; they're popular and encourage people to re-ride. I don't mind the shooting element, so long as the flashlights/blasters actually work. I'm sure this is going to be pretty screen-heavy. I do hope there are some animatronics throughout. Even Universal seems to understand the days of screen-centric rides are ending, and animatronics are the bigger draw.
  18. Happy for the PT fans as your wish has been granted. I will give it a try at some point next year. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Still curious though. This doesn't fit the 2026 Family Thrill attraction...unless that's been canceled in lieu of this...or there is still something waiting around the corner for the old Crypt building (highly doubtful...)
  19. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/blog/2025/august/phantom-theater-opening-nightmare-coming-in-2026
  20. On the one hand, I kind of am bummed that it sounds like this will use the same layout as BB, and will even keep the shooting concept (the flashers will probably continue to be blasters that might or might not work...hopefully they'll be overhauled). On the other hand, fun! I like the reimagined look -- definitely going for an energetic, family friendly ride, and it will hopefully straddle the line nicely between honoring the past and giving families a fun, new attraction. Not bad!
  21. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/blog/2025/august/phantom-theater-opening-nightmare-coming-in-2026 “Along the way, the enchanted opera boxes travel through fully built dimensional scenes, including backstage areas, haunted hallways, dressing rooms and a fiery boiler room as they meet other performers who are ready to take the stage. 22. That makes two of us! Probably more...
  23. Been up since 6 checking. Ha.
  24. Let's stir the pot a little: Looks like it cryptically is saying: watch out for #7. What is #7? If "#5 is alive!" could SOB be #5. The next roller coaster after SOB was the Junkyard Coaster. So naturally that would be #6. What's next? Firehawk as #7. New style Vekoma flying coaster called SOB built out of the SOB station outward, coming out over extreme sky flyer and taking up the removed Timberwolf, Congo Falls and Invertigo plots. New SOB confirmed! Seven is alive!!!! :):):):) Or.....there is a secret coup that will happen and seven references a new owner is coming after Six. Lololol
  25. Excited to see how it turns out. I am a bit conflicted about the character designs though. The Maestro seems Disneyfied but I get that they want to keep the ride family friendly. Also hoping the flashlights are just actual, focused flashlights that you shine on things to interact with them. That would be a good way to avoid taking the interactive nature away from kids who like it and pleasing those of us who didn't like that we miss scenery because we're struggling to hit those targets.
  26. I'd be willing to bet same ride system and reworked buggies.
  27. Why not both Maestro and Larry? I think what will probably happen is they'll have Maestro up there at his organ and there will be lightning and thunder special effects for the "stormy night" part and then have the ghost notes disappear from the organ and then both Maestro and Larry will give instructions to find the notes using the flashlight. Kinda like during the Scooby Doo Haunted Castle days where Scooby and Shaggy were up there telling you how to use the blasters.
  28. I moved the new ride discussions to the announcement thread.
  29. I think there's lots of potential with this. Here is a recent installation by Sally Dark Rides at Funtown Splashtown USA in Maine and it looks cool. If Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare is done anywhere close to this, I think we're all in for a treat! This Haunted Hotel theme honestly reminds me a bit of Phantom Theater in a way.
  30. I like the updates to the character expressions to make them more cartoonish... this is geared towards families (especially with the shooting aspect) so making them more kid friendly is a great idea in my opinion
  31. I agree that entrance needs a facelift. Hopefully something similar to the original of at least something that looks like a vaudeville opera house. I do wish the entrance would not be in Planet Snoopy but I highly doubt they would move the entrance. I also kinda think the bridge stays as is unfortunately. As long as they get rid of the castle facade I'll be happy
  32. Well if it's not A.I. they should do a better job in the future of making sure it doesn't look like it is lol. As long as the final product delivers it doesn't matter what the promotional material looks like. I'm curious if the opera boxes are going to be painted red like they are in the poster because the original phantom doom buggies were kinda greyish blue
  33. Just what could happen with that queue area alone… This can be really special.
  34. I can confirm. My kids love the blaster rides. Toy Story mania was way up there for the favorite at Toy Story Land.
  35. They probably won't do it but I'd LOVE if they did make it run the opposite direction so that it feels like a different layout. Also I'm pretty sure the vehicle swivels can be changed so even if it runs the same direction as it always has, maybe the swivel will be different
  36. ever since Knotts Berry Farm brought back Berry tales I had thought that Kings Island would get something like this. It’s a good way to still keep the shooting aspect while removing the bland theming, as well as cashing in on nostalgia. I think something that’s more important to know is that the Phantom theater IP is officially back! Sure there has been some merchandise out prior and we did have the two seasons of the show in the KI Theater- but after Paramount closed the ride in the early 2000s up until really the 2022 season of Cedar Fair ownership, guests were only ever exposed to Phantom Theater during Fearfest/Haunt when the props were displayed. It’s still baffles my mind that the fresh, original, IP just sat unused for 20 years. I know there are people who are upset that it’s not a complete return to what the park was given in the 90s, but with all things considered I say this is a fair compromise.
  37. I think there's probably a lot of elasticity in what's meant by "family thrill attraction." They can say this is spooky and "thrilling" and bases are covered.
  38. I looked up Sally Dark Rides that is making it, looks like good quality, mix of tech https://youtu.be/gUCBj_ZzrEU Edit: found out they also were the ones who developed Boo Blasters
  39. I'm a little confused by the teaser now after the announcement because it really didn't have much to do with the announcement. It did play Phantom of the Opera, but like what was the whole Crypt building things about? Just to throw us off? Also, is this considered the 2026 "family thrill attraction"? I have many questions. Most, cannot be answered...yet
  40. I agree. The pressure is on KI. People have expectations...hopefully they can meet them
  41. I'm on PST so I don't have to wait as long as y'all
  42. According to the parks Instagram story with a countdown, a bit after 10:00 AM.
  43. It’s a MCU Easter Egg! Universe 828
  44. I think you’re right. As time has gone on, there have been certain image “styles” that AI slop seems to most often put out. The worst looking kind of AI slop generated images is the kind where it looks hyper realistic and cartoony at the same time. I’m thrilled they confirmed it’s not AI slop and now I gotta know how designed the poster because whoever did deserves all the props. After all, creatives are usually underpaid for their work in every creative industry and deserve more recognition for the hard work they do. That’s most glaringly in writing and animation. I find this confirmation to be really exciting. It’ll make hardcore PT fans and BB/Scooby Doo fans happy. A best of both worlds situation, combining the most popular aspects of attractions that have been inside the building over the years. With all the bad stuff that is going on on a daily basis to the point it’s probably hard for someone to fully process everything that has happened in just the past week in the country alone, this is really really good news to have. This along with the revivals of Regular Show, Phineas & Ferb, and Gumball feel like it’s just what we needed. Returning what was once over but doing it in a way that makes it new all over again.
  45. The description and the way the "flashlights" are depicted in the promo art reminds me a lot of Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek at Tokyo Disneyland, where you point an actual light at the props to set them off. That would be a nice alternative to the current blasters, although I feel like that won't be how it actually works.
  46. Also look at the grand prize. Looks like an early 2010s iPod Touch. I believe it's mainly been gaming consoles and Air Pods the past few years.
