  1. Cedar Fair needs to purchase lots of advertisements in Amusement Today. Problem solved. Next!
  2. To echo the Interpreter, Idlewild is a fantastic amusement park almost entirely for kids. Also consider: is Planet Snoopy really better than The Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland? Universal's Islands of Adventure's Seuss Landing? Paultons' Peppa Pig World? LEGOLAND Parks? Maybe it is... But don't allow yourself to accept the Amusement Today "awards" without looking at how those awards are distributed and why? I've often asked how Cedar Point fails to place in best food, cleanest park, best entertainment, friendliest employees, best dark ride, best water ride, or best landscaping, but somehow manages to snag best amusement park. Maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't the "best amusement park in the world" place first in all of those categories, or at least one?
  3. Ask those who have been injured on SoB if they believe the coaster's life was cut short.
  4. I could mention that a vast, vast majority of Kings Island visitors have absolutely zero idea that a park in Missouri called Worlds of Fun exists at all, much less that it's owned by the same company or adopted similar adornments to its logo. But I won't.

From the twitter account of Rebecca Baker, Cedar Point's marketing coordinator. "Industry is buzzing with @SixFlags announcements. I'm a little bias, but I think the #Gatekeeper launch across platforms was better executed" Better executed? Was she not informed Gatekeeper was leaked the day before? I don't understand how some one could think Gatekeepers announcement was better than what Six Flags did. For God's sake, one of the higher ups called Gatekeeper WindSeeker during the announcement.
  6. And anyone who believes a ride is only worth riding or considered "thrilling" if it's at a set height, speed, or style should not be allowed to consider themselves an enthusiast, either.
  7. I know of one that I find superior to KI, with better landscaping, ride selection and friendlier patrons. It's truly is a wondrous land for kids and parents, eh.
  8. One other thing - give away free blue ice cream cones!
  9. Standing in a welfare line because you can't buy a job? A song about the evils of discrimination and some boys not allowed where others go? A song that hopes for change? What? My head hurts.
  10. We marathonned Backlot earlier this year; it left me feeling dizzier than I was used to, but back-to-back blasts on The Beast were the best, bud! [[[[splash cymbal]]]
  11. Wow. I once had a dream I was riding Vortex, except the restraint was a piece of string. And that dream occurred BEFORE I started riding it! (had the dream in either '08 or '09, and I started riding in 2010). Weird huh? That could get rather bumpy! I've dreamt that Vortex had a section that was 900' high, but you had to disembark the classic train, and walk over to a gymnast's hoop/zip line thing to get back down safely... THROUGH the now 900'-high corkscrew, batwing, etc.Talk about hanging on!
  12. For me, I don't necessarily have limits, but the rides with the most consecutive rides I've managed to do (I can do a bigger number in the future) are as follows: Vortex: 13 18 (and I STILL felt fine! Maybe its 'cause of younger age) Diamondback: 10 Viper (DL): 10 Loch Ness Monster: 6 (it was crowded at BGW the day I went there) Like I said before, it is pretty likely that I may surpass those records of mine in the future (or at least attempt to)

That sounds like some of the additions that just got installed.
  14. I would hate to be Don, dealing with the Facebook crowd. Poor Don.

One would think BB1's favorite ride was in Boomerang Bay.
  16. Vortex: 1 Diamondback: 3 to 6 depending on my mood Beast: >1 (never tried to marathon this) Flight Deck: >1 (ditto) Backlot Stunt Coaster: >1 (ditto again) Firehawk: 2 to 3 Flight of Fear: 2 Invertigo: 1 Adventure Express: 1, maybe 2 if I'm bored. And last but certainly not least: Racer: "What do you mean Coasting for Kids is over?!?"
  17. Never. I could ride coasters all day, although that may be due to a smaller height/younger age or something.
  18. Don't forget the food...oh lord the food!!!! I agree with Terpy though, free admission (parking too), great rides, great help, great staff and great location!
  19. Um, lets think logically here. If it is in fact going down the same way it went up (piece by piece,) would it not take at least 3/4 of the time it took to put it up? I bet we will see some structure left standing at the start of next season.
  20. I am glad I was able to ride S.O.B but it is time to put it to rest.
  21. SS has been a maintenance nightmare for some time. Spending excessive resources (time & money) anymore would be counterproductive. It was a nice ride & I'm sad to see it go for nostalgic reasons. The park has mentioned on a few occasions that the removal would take place during the off days in September.
  22. Diamondback - I got like 7 at ERT one time. I could do much more.. The Beast - Most i've done was 5 on the ERT week when Diamondback had 'Routine Maintence". I could do much more. Drop Tower - Forever. Ok, maybe 200 or so. Flight of Fear - Probably only 5 or so. Racer - Got 103 in at CFK. Felt like I could go on and on. Firehawk - It's almost impossible to marathon this. Invertigo - Maybe 3 Vortex - I did 2 last night without getting off. I could do more but it was time for a Beast night ride. Flight Deck - Back in the day I stayed on about 4 times in a row without getting off with my dad. Could do FD for awhile. Delirium - 2 tops Adventure Express - I could forever but I would get bored. Ect...

Paramount and CBS had cut back on cap ex in the last years. So much so that at one IAAPA Jeff Seibert was unironically referring to new additions as "cheap and cheerful."
  24. If Six Flags owned Kings Island, the announcement would have been Thursday. Each Six Flags park was included in the announcement.
  25. And if it doesn't, in the future the past will be edited to comport with the present.
  26. I don't think the members here read Screamscape.
  27. I wants a coaster! Pwease?
  28. I rode The Beast non stop a few hours during ERT in the fall, personally I could do it non stop for hours. Or as a fond song of mine goes

^I was wondering if anybody else caught that WindSeeker slip
  30. As mentioned earlier, there are multiple other SOB topics. Please refer to one of those, such as this one: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25938-general-son-of-beast-discussion/
  31. I rode FD 15 times in a row 2 years ago. I could of kept going too but their was atleast one person in each spot after that and we would have to go back though whole line. I can take pain on coasters to as of right now. Which would explain my name. Like TheCrypt I can ride all day.

Benefits for Gold Passholders will continue to include free season-long parking, early ride time on select attractions, and other benefits like free membership in the FUN Perks rewards program. There's always a lot to be excited about at Kings Island.

Odd KI quietly announces a 10 dollar price increase (fall price last year was $69.99) for gold passes with no list of 2013 pass benefits. Will there be ERT? If so what rides? No new rides announced, just the permanent loss of Crypt and SOB. I'm not starting a Raptoresque meltdown, it just seems unless hot dogs and pizzas are going to be 1 dollar all next season, there's really not a whole lot to be excited about for 2013. (Yet?) I'll renew and hope for the best.
  34. I took this back in the paramount days......
  35. Heres a pic! It looks like SOB is wearing camo. Pictures 084 by KIC-Original, on Flickr

Thanks for the report...i'm glad you had a good time. P.S. Are you getting a head start on "No Shave November"?!
  37. Thanks! I'm looking to see if I have any more that might be unique to share with you all. Edit: Ta-Da! The group shot from Ride Warriors (2009 I think?) And one of a snow covered Kings Island (Sorry, I couldn't find the original file, so you get the edited black and white version.)
  38. I love how you think that theBEASTunchained is mccarthysnerd.I have no clue if he is but it's funny that you assume that it's the same person.

There will not be a tour of the ride.
  40. Six Flags has different management now. What got it in trouble was borrowing way too much money to buy too many parks and too many coasters, an overemphasis on new product and an underemphasis on customer service and taking care of the infrastructure and significantly underpricing season passes and gate pricing while overcharging for nearly everything else. Much of this has been fixed. Much remains to be done.
  41. I've only been to one Six Flags Park, Six Flags Over Texas, and as someone said earlier both chains have their strengths and weaknesses. I'll explain briefly... Going into my visit back in 2007, I was expecting to enter a very bland and generic corporate park with lots of rides but little to no charm, as a lot of what I had heard about Six Flags parks was similar to what has been posted by some in this thread. I was very surprised with what I found. The park itself was beautiful and I would have to say it was more of a theme park than Kings Island is, as for the most part the rides all fit their respective areas, even if I didn't care for some of the themes (ex. I prefer Congo Falls "theming" over Aquaman for a splash ride and I think Zephyr is a much better looking swing ride than The Gun Slinger, etc.). The rides were good and I had a great time, of course I was also dropped off and didn't have to pay for parking. My day at Six Flags Over Texas left me wanting to get to more Six Flags parks, something I've yet to do, but hope to change soon. Six Flags and Cedar Fair are both good park chains, do I wish Six Flags owned Kings Island? Not necessarily, but I don't think it would be the end of the world and they would probably do a lot of things I'd like, as well as some that I wouldn't (advertising wraps on coaster trains anyone?). I was one of the people who, after hearing CBS wanted to sell the Paramount Parks, was keeping their fingers crossed that the parks weren't made into a package deal and that Kings Island would've become a Busch Park (now SeaWorld Parks). When I heard Cedar Fair purchased the parks I was a little disappointed, but they have surprised me and done a lot of great things for the park, as well as some questionable things. I've gotten a little sidetracked but my point is that you shouldn't overgeneralize about park chains, they all have their strengths and shortcomings, their strong parks and their less than strong parks. The end.
  42. I really don't understand where all this hate for Six Flags is coming from. Three Six Flags owned properties that I have been to, Great Adventure, Magic Mountain, and Over Texas, I actually prefer over Kings Island. The other two I have visited, Great America and New England, are by no means bad parks either. Be sure to visit these parks before making hasty assumptions about them.
  43. I don't see what's so bad about SF. I mean I guess they're a poorly run company due to the fact they went bankrupt several years ago but when I went to Six Flags Great Adventure I had a blast; and I didn't even get to ride Kingda Ka!
  44. My point stands. You can't logically make that statement unless you've been to the parks you are comparing. Sigh.
  45. In my case, it was Kings Dominion. Mr. Reid-Anderson and Mr. Weber have benefited from that, as have the Seaworld parks.
  46. The layout is cool. I like that. But the location stinks, quite frankly. I guess one could call me an Adventure Express activist, but I will reiterate what I have stated in the past: No rides by Adventure Express! And while you're at it, plant some trees that will actually grow tall (unlike the few dogwoods we got in Rivertown) and plant them by the first tunnel so as to obstruct Drop Tower and our Skycoaster! What happened to our secluded Express?
  47. I have now replied to your topic. Have a nice day!
