  1. ^Trust me, I got you and liked the sarcasm. I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but I just find it annoying when every other post on this site is about nitpicking at little things and believing they have some hidden meaning. Folks, sometimes paint is just paint.
  2. It seems like the new trend at KI is. Hey lets close that ride and put a haunt in it's station or building instead of tearing it down. :::::Everyone Claps:::::
  3. It's for the best, the ride's best days were behind it. When I rode it on opening day last season (the only time I rode it all season) it was in a sad state even with the "ride enhancements", which were just lipstick on a pig in my opinion. Sad to see what was once Tomb Raider, a ride that had entered with a bang as one of the park's biggest investments ever fade into history with a small tweet announcing its end. The biggest disappointment to me though is that it's not being torn down, the box is an eyesore, but oh well it'll be interesting to see what they do with it for Haunt.
  4. Agreed. The ride looked sunbaked so they're repainting it. When has any other ride's new paint job foreshadowed some grand scheme?
  5. They said it was in fact because of your suggestion.
  6. From what I heard, Flight of Fear is also being repainted. Here's a panoramic thumbnail picture: █████ I also heard that the anniversary of Vortex will be celebrated by installing a gold link in the lift chain. Not verified.
  7. Until the supports are painted as well, it looks like an absolute thriller. A Serial Thriller, perhaps.
  8. From now on, Invertigo will forever be known as Blue: The Da Ba Deexperience:
  9. Nope, you're not the only one. As I said in the other topic that was started on this subject and then locked: And the park is once again without a Ferris wheel...
  10. Am I the only one that's ridiculously excited to see what they do with the space in relativity to making a killer Haunt? (No Pun Intended)
  11. Two respected members...two different points of view...is it any wonder some members are not sure what kind of frame of mind to have around here?! Then of course I could throw the old "Those who know don't talk..." theory about Gordon's post...but I have NEVER believed that old theory! I could also throw in that we have been told over and over that the park plans everything years in advance...but once again, I have never quite believed that either. I guess the point of my post is no one should get TOO upset when people are taking guesses of what the paint job does/doesn't mean...blame all of the past posts.
  12. It's just ugly. Sorry box fans.
  13. I'm sad to see the box stay but glad CF finally pulled the plug. It was sad watching TR:TR slowly die.
  14. King Cobra...but most misread that. They painted it, so they can't be getting rid of it, right?
  15. Since when did a ride's paint job become a crystal ball? Not everything the park does is some kind of conspiracy about the future.
  16. I totally agree with you on this. Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times in regards to society these days. People expect everybody else to do the work for them. Nobody likes to take the initiative anymore and do it themselves. I am completely different. I always try to find the information myself and only after exhausting all of my options and coming up empty would I actually call them up to ask about things such ticket prices or opening day. I don't know, I guess that's how I was raised. But I guess I'm part of a dying breed. And I'm not even that old!
  17. Things change. A plan underway may not appear to make much sense during its early implementation. The wise may even see Blue's Clues. Terp, who just HAD to
  18. I miss all the trees in Rivertown. They should just remove The Crypt and put a pond back in, and a log flume
  19. I don't think anyone's walked up to the front entrance and turned around because the colors of Invertigo weren't welcoming. I'm more disappointed that Boddah1994 claims this is from under the black hat yet doesn't update his blog of the same name.
  20. People have returned season after season to Kings Island with far less incentive as far as "new attractions," and they'll continue to do so next year. Instead of considering 2012's new Soak City and wave pool to be a huge attraction addition year (comparing to 2007, 2009, etc) consider it an infrastructure year that just so happens to include a medium-sized addition (2010, 2011, etc). Very few of us would argue that the water park was fine the way it was and that it could sustain another five or six years with its then-current offerings. In fact, many people here said that the water park needed major updating and upgrading. So just like last year, when we saw many, many small improvements throughout the park and a few medium expenditure attractions (WindSeeker and Dinosaurs Alive), this is yet another year of much-needed small scale updates and refurbishments with a fair sized attraction thrown in for marketing purposes. There's nothing wrong with years like 2011 or 2012. Remember that for a very long time, that's how Viacom ran the parks. A handful of parks got clones of the same medium-sized ride or received their own medium-sized attraction with general park improvements thrown in. Years like that allow every park to get something new (which every park is next year, as far as I've seen) as opposed to two or three parks getting huge coasters while the other parks receive virtually nothing and sit stagnant, waiting for their "turn." Many people here were absolutely enamored with last year's way of doing this. We enjoyed the repainting, the attention-to-detail, the ride soundtracks, the returning effects, the small details that indicate at least an interest in maintaining the train and Backlot and the Crypt... 2012 looks to be shaping up similarly. No $25 million addition, maybe, but a refreshed, revitalized change or two with a nice attraction that was needed.

The "islands" have been there as long as the park has, as seen below: April 29, 1972. Photo courtesy Paul Holzschuher. Regarding the '74/'11 comparison, I think this is one of my favorite shots so far. I like how similar the shots are and how many buildings and attractions have survived. Once again, thanks for taking the time, energy, etc. to put all of this together, J.D.
  22. So, every time I said that Skyline really did have a serving area in back, I was right! I knew it!! Fun fact: If you look in the concrete in front of Skyline, you can see the spots where they filled in the holes left by the wooden fences that separated the lines. Some of the concrete touchups have even come out, so you can see wood through them.
  23. I think standbyme has a standing assignment. In the year 2048, he is to go back and do this again, in the exact same spots to the extent possible. And Hendrick is to do those amazing transformations. I just pray I'm still around to see them and have enough gumption left to appreciate them.
  24. This is exactly where issues arise. When Kings Island does not get a giga-coaster for 2013 (or for 2012, as some doubtlessly suspect that construction truly has been occurring somewhere secretly inside the park), we will say Kings Island overhyped it. Yes, it seems that Kings Island saying absolutely positively nothing about a giga-coaster at Kings Island indicates that "Cedar Fair wants us to thing that a giga is coming to [Kings Island] but actually there isn't." Really. That's the place we've arrived at in off-season speculation. So many of us just beg for disappointment. And mark my words, people here WILL complain when Kings Island doesn't receive a giga-coaster in 2013; they will say exactly what is said here: That Cedar Fair intentionally misled us (how?) into thinking there would be a giga-coaster (why?) by never saying there would be one (yep!) when really there wasn't (huh?) exactly as they had not said there would be. What a marketing ploy that is! Brilliant beyond our meager mortal understanding, I guess.
