In the days before toll free numbers were common, I remember radio ads giving addresses and saying either drop us a postcard or in some cases, even a self addressed stamped envelope for more information. It truly was a different world.

I like seeing King Cobra's logo featured on the front...except for seeing a Smurf it looks like a great year to be at the park. (This is the first foldout in the brochure.) The only thing that caught my eye on this page...no pun intended...is that Yogi appears to have 1 eye closed. I can't picture a costume made with 1 eye closed...so was it possible to manually open & close the eyes on some of those outfits for a different look back then? If so, I am impressed. (Middle of brochure.) "Flintstones shake little hands and bring on giant smiles"....GREAT line! I have always loved White Water Canyon...it remains to be one of the park's better additions. (IMHO) Have a great weekend!

I will feel even more confident in a funforward future when certain park GM's are no longer abart of the company, sonny.
  4. To me, it speaks volumes that Pat is not a part of this venture. In my book, she is the heart, soul, brains, visionary and true leader at Holiday World. I wouldn't personally want to participate in any Koch family endeavor that didn't have at least her whole-hearted endorsement. In addition, separate legal entity or not, this is a distraction from Holiday World's values, mission and focus. If this goes forward, the Santa Claus operation will suffer, perhaps irreparably so.

Todays pic is from 1975. It is one of my favorties. A great view of the fountain and the Skyride in the background just adds to the shot.

Islands of Adventure just called, they want it's rumor back.
  7. This is of great sentimental value to me! Thanks for posting! When I was very small, my mom's best friend, who knew I was just fascinated with Kings Island (at 3!) brought me a copy of the original map and my mom hung it up next to my playpen (yes, that small)... we lived in what was once the little white house across from the old fire station in downtown Mason (all four are gone now - Mom, her friend, the house, and the old fire station) - but the memory will live on. Awesome find!
  8. Fixed. Just my opinion A B&M invert would do quite nicely also.
  9. Happy to share. I'll try to get a shot of my 1982 map here one of these days.
  10. It worked so well for Gary Story's Six Flags. Too big an example? Bev and John Roberts whose overexpansion did in Funspot in Indiana and nearly took Camden Park down with it. Kentucky Kingdom would almost certainly be a major distraction for the Kochs and endanger Holiday World. Bigger is not always better.
  11. Am I the only one who thinks wave pool 2 looks horribly out of place?

I was really worried about the future of CF until I read your post about the CEO's. Thanks for your insight, I'm at ease now.

  14. I sympathize with the girl, and feel terrible that there are things I can do that she cannot. I also praise her determination to lead a life like everyone else, she can influence many people that have disablities. That said..... I cannot play football, I do not have the physical talents to do it. Should I sue the NFL for discrimination? I cannot dunk a basketball, I do not have the physical talents to do it. Should I petition the NBA & NCAA to lower the hoop heights? I cannot perform open heart surgery. I so not have the mental skill to do it. I have no idea who to complain to.... Extreme cases? They sure are. Just like she has an unfortunate extreme case. If parks/ coaster designers had to cater with every unfortunate case like this, we would never be able to enjoy an amusement park again. Many in today's society are WAY too sensitive. It has become acceptable to hand out trophies & praise for a 6th place finish. This type of action had great intentions, but has resulted in an entitlement attitude by many. Praise should not be given for a 6th place finish, just like coasters cannot be designed for every person.

  17. A standing ovation for standbyme on this one. I've been enjoying this series, and they just keep getting better!
  18. My how time does fly. 2ooo. http://www.lifthill.com/water-rides/the-wild-thornberrys-river-adventure/ I still remember what I thought was my last ride in 1999, crying out of sorrow and at the stupidity of a management that would remove such a fine Arrow flume. Little did I know it was a different Arrow flume that would soon meet its doom.
  19. What year was that the flume shut down?

But after you see the price of $3.75 assigned to a small cone, what will you do? Turn to page 67 if you would buy the ice cream anyway. Turn to page 32 if you would instead leave the park and get $1.10 soft serve down the street.
