  1. ^Unless he simply dictated the letter...I give him credit for being able to type with those claws.

KICentral to me is like that small, intimate and unique 'Mom 'n Pop' grocery store (with the little short-order café in the corner) that's out in the country, where like-interest folks can come in and chat, and where new friends and/or neighbors are welcome to stop in and feel like part of the family, sip a little coffee, and go enjoy the rest of their day. In contrast: facebook is like... Walmart: giant, ubiquitous and busy, with so many different things upon which to focus, any one area of interest gets lost quickly. There are other things that I can compare, but I'll leave it at that.
  5. Girl in the blue dress??
  6. Most of the people watching that show probably had absolutely no idea that an amusement park named Kings Island existed at all, much less that a controversial wooden coaster used to operate there. I think that would've been a foolish time to announce any potential changes, personally.
  7. I was very disappointed by this episode.
  8. Cant wait to ride it again!!!
  9. I may have misheard but I'm pretty sure they said that the cemetary dated the plant and that none of the graves were from people that worked at the plant. The "Ghost Hunters" revealed this at the end after their extensive research via an easy Google search. One of them looked at Don and was like "Oh, hey, yeah, uh so that factory exploded like, uh, well after those people died. OMG, DID YOU HEAR THAT!?" Then he pointed his flashlight at an area where the camera wasn't looking. When the camera turned... nothing was there. Also, I'm pretty sure that the plant that exploded was once adjacent/connected to the cartridge factory that still stands well behind the park and down the river. Although, there were once other munition plants on land that now occupies KI. I don't think any of those ever exploded though. One last thing: Don never said that the little girl in the blue dress was connected to the plant explosion, yet the Ghost Hunters seemed like they kept assuming that. And just for the record - this was a good thing for the park. The B-Roll footage was beautiful, it got the park national attention on a wildly popular show and was fun to watch. The show is still stupid though.
  10. It's been haunting KI as long as it's been there.
  11. If they really wanted to mess with people, they should have put a work crew in the background "working" on SOB while they were filming in that area. You think pictures of the cars get people talking, imagine if they had a handful of people doing pretend work in the background.
  12. Quite frankly, IMO the whole idea behind this was silly. I made it through about 5 minutes and had to turn. Good to see the park on TV? I suppose. But utterly ridiculous to have "ghost hunters" predictibly arriving in the haunted house looking for scary noises. Sheesh
  13. Is that the shed where they take breaks from work .. or are you referring to brake sheds?
  14. Oh well. At least Jim made it on TV.
  15. I wish they had investigated tower johnny or the ghost that throws rocks at the wwc tower. This was cool to see boo blasters empty with night vision. And who knows maybe the S.O.B. shots were a hint... (was anyone else waiting for Don to stand up and say Son of Beast is going to reopen in 2013)
  16. I think its great KI is asking us, plus a backstage tour of The Beast. That really cool they offered us the chance to help out with something to do with the park. Not cheesy at all. The more people complain the less likely they are to ever ask us to do stuff like this anymore.

  20. I know that this has been discussed before, but I thought I'd start a fresh topic since it's been quite a while. Nate Byrum, formerly of CET Cincinnati, passioniately created this documentary about the history of Kings Island back in 2009. I know many of you are new to the boards (since 2009) so this is certainly a "must" for those with any interest or passion for KI. KICentral is thanked in the ending credits. Enjoy!!! http://www.cetconnect.org/kingsisland/

I am assuming that you didn't mean this to come off quite like I took it...I also have a life. Sometimes I joke that I don't...but the fact of the matter is I also work 40 hours a week, plus for 7 months this year I spent an ungodly amount of hours every day renovating a house...now i'm building a playhouse...and I still find time to visit this site. If just a member can find the time to contribute then why not the people who are "running" the site? If they are bored with the site why not find members who aren't? (And yes, adding Jesse/Avatar was the best thing to happen to this site in eternity.) (Just trying to stay on "the list"!)
  22. I collect shot glasses, mugs, magnets, key chains, and occasional souvenir cups. I'm more into maps and post cards which I keep in boxes. I also like to collect souvenir bags, I have a binder I keep them under plastic so they don't get faded. Most stuff come from Cedar Point and Sea World, but there's a fair amount of Kings Island and other parks too. I have a lot of Paramount's Kings Island hoodies and also hoodies for KI Haunt. I have 1 hoodie from Knott's Haunt that was a gift this past year. Numerous CP shirts, at least 4 or 5 for Raptor, 2 Mantis shirts, 1 Banshee shirt and a Cedar Point Christmas in the Park sweater. Souvenir Cups from Kings Island I have a Delirium, Halloween Haunt (Green), Son of Beast (the weird looking black one with his claw at the base), and a mug with the original Kings Island logo, Crocodile Dundee's Boomerang Bay and other Paramount branded cups and a WindSeeker. Other park souvenir cups include 6 Mantis cups, Soak City (CP), Challenge Park (CP), Berenstein Bear kids cup (CP), SeaWorld (with the original logo), a glass cup and a mug with branded with "Cedar Point Amazement Park". Shot glasses, I have for Diamondback, Beast, SeaWorld "Believe", Dollywood, and one for Magnum XL 200. 23. ^ Thanks Hendrick! I think my favorite thing about that pic, is once again, seeing the age of the rocks, and how much they have weathered.
  24. Would that be this brochure? http://www.KICentral.com/history/ki1972/ You're not insane. There was a monkey island at KI. The Liberty Bell disappeared this year (unless it moved to another spot and I missed it). In it's place was a floral carousel horse. While the carousel horse was nice, the Liberty Bell was bigger and better in my opinion. You would certainly know better than I...I just always thought it looked like the kind of a thing that would have been planned when they were laying out the park. Thanks for enlightening me. The clock wasn't even there in 1974, as you can see in your '74 picture of Antiques. I'm a big fan of the floral features around the park, and this includes the calendar. I thought it looked good this year, but wow how much better it looked in '74! Thanks for the pictures and this topic!
  25. And the floral date actually had the old Kings Island logo up until about five years ago. At one point in time, I believe it also had the year listed on it as well. And those two images show you how small a lot of the trees were inside of the park when it first opened in the early years. Many people take that for granted now!
