  1. Honestly, I'd kill for a redux of Enchanted Voyage. A relaxing indoor boat ride with a family-friendly theme would be a welcome addition for those who enjoy slower-paced attractions.
  2. Beast woods can be terrifying at 2:30 am
  3. Happy belated New Year to all! So, I was going to post these on New Years Day, but as fate would have it, Photobucket wouldn't cooperate. My gift to each of you fellow Ki fans is something you may find interesting. 12 years ago, I began photo documenting the construction of Son of Beast. I have pics from the very first footers, to the announcement, to final construction, to the first test runs, and finally opening day. There's lots of pics, all taken by me. I hope you enjoy. Please don't post these to other sites without asking me for consent. After all, I did all the dirty work ;-) First, here's a look at construction from start to finish: http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i475/jhnktr/Son%20of%20Beast%20Construction%20-%20PKI/ Here's pics from the announcement: (look closely and you'll see Jeff Siebert (This was prior to his being hired by PKI, which happened just weeks after this event!) as well as Don Helbig (Long prior to his joinging KI Marketing.) http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i475/jhnktr/Son%20of%20Beast%20Announcement%20PKI/ Here's the infamous SOB crate: http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i475/jhnktr/Son%20of%20Beast%20Crate%20-%20PKI/ Here's ultra rare pics of the first ever riders on SOB. This happened on Easter Sunday 2000. The first riders included Tim Fisher, then GM of the park, along with engineers and other Paramount Park Execs. http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i475/jhnktr/Son%20of%20Beast%201st%20test%20run%20with%20riders%20-%20PKI/ Finally, heres pics from SOB's opening day. These were taken Friday evening following the media event. After the media event in the morning, the track was ripped out and replaced in the ascent following the large drop. The coaster openened for a few hours on Friday evening, then was closed for sometime as the entire track in that area was considered "too violent." http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i475/jhnktr/Son%20of%20Beast%20Opening%20Day%20-%20PKI/ I hope you enjoy them. This was a fun time in my coaster life. Lots of friends and memories were made during this time. Let me know what you think ;-) Shaggy aka John
  4. If this has been discussed please delete. I ran a search and yielded nothing, so I went ahead and posted. Saw the trailer and they mentioned their hunt would take place at a Mason, Ohio amusement park...hmmm http://www.examiner.com/tv-ghost-hunters-in-national/ghost-hunters-season-8-premiere ~Josh
  5. I think in general, dry amusement parks max out at one log flume, one "splashdown" boat, and one circular rapids ride. As it is, Kings Island has one of each. And as kingsrattler said, they're nice models. Comparatively, Cedar Point had one of each model, as well, but all of them get you completely and utterly soaked to the bone. At least at Kings Island, you can choose a mist & a spritz (Race For Your Life), a chance of getting soaked (White Water Canyon), or a complete drenching (Congo Falls). I think it would be a unique and fun idea to have a new age style water ride straddling the border between Kings Island and Soak City, available to guests at both parks (like Pilgrim's Plunge at Holiday World) but our practically-detached waterpark might make that difficult.
  6. Certainly one of the biggest innovations in the coaster industry in the '90s was the LIM (linear induction motor), which was used for the first time on The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear at both KI & KD in 1996. EDIT: Since you mentioned Harry Potter, the greatly themed Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, just barely making it into your decade! And then there was the opening of WDW's Animal Kingdom in 1998 too.
  7. They're investigating the reports of a ghost behind Thunder Alley. You see if you stand near the entrance and look up, there's a huge ghostly structure in the woods. But if you look at the park map.....There's Nothing!!! It's a GHOST!! Quotes from every past Ghost Hunter episode: "What was that?....Did you hear that?.....I hope we got that on camera!...That was definitely something!!!"
  8. That would be a cool 47 million but who's counting.... When the announcement was made that SOB would be closed for the 2010 season, it was said 30 million had been spent on the ride (still not even as much as Diamondback and Top Thrill). It cost 20 million to build. That leaves 10 million for repairs that have been done. But I could see how you could get 47 million and 10 million confused.
  9. My wife asked me if Mason has a closed themepark. I said i wasn't that sure. But then i remember hearing about them being at KI. I hope it's true. It's too bad we can't dress up in the Haunt outfits and run about the park and make them think we was ghosts. Lol. But we could really say that the park is haunted.
  10. Does anyone find it intresting that a movie call Face Off Is following the show?
  11. 1 point
Let's argue over footers over footings again too. This isn't just a local message board, you came off sounding like a jerk as usual. Batavia is in GREATER Cincinnati. "as usual" seems to indicate you have a predefined opinion of CoastersRZ posts. Others may have just thought that he is supplying additional info that can help people expand their knowledge. And he started by saying, "technically" which indicates he knows he is being detailed.
  12. Photo #8 - Wild Animal Habitat
  13. Gator - that 48" height is magical at KI. I hope GatorGirl enjoys the new rides as much as Kyle did (late 2009) and Neil did (mid last summer). Your KI experience has changed - remember to include rides like Zephyr on your itinerary also, and be prepared for the "I want to ride by myself" big girl attitude! This summer, I resolve to enjoy a new season with my boys after last was cut short surprisingly. I look forward to more 54" rides with Kyle (he only has the DB credit) and seeing Neil expand his confidence on the 48" rides (BLSC and AE aren't favorites yet and he has yet to conquer Drop Tower).
  14. But yet it still looks like the tower. What does that say about France? haha. Thanks once again for the pictures.
  15. Thank you for the memories. I wish my children could experience something like what KI used to be. Thunderbolt at Kennywood was as close as I have been able to come so far.
  16. That is cool to see the superimposed pics. I'm insanely remembering little spider monkeys on an island, was that at KI?
