  1. I would think that would all depend on what provisions are in the Kinzels' respective contracts. If anyone could look me in the eye and somberly attest that Barton Kinzel is the most qualified person available to run Carowinds and was selected without regard to his relationship to the then CEO and Chairman, well, then, I would NOT want to play poker with that person!
  2. Remember this is just experimentation too. Holiday World is trying something new, so I'm sure they will be tinkering with the prices, etc. Personally, I think the CF passes and tickets are much too low. It's all about perceived value, and I would much rather pay more to get in the park and have all the food prices drop by $2-3. Seeing a sign for $6 fries ticks me off.
  3. $30 / 8 (additional days to visit - assuming that one will actually attend all 8 extra days) = $3.75 per day per pass Really people? You're complaining about the park that everyone has been raving about for years and raving about the perks that it offers it's visitors because they are offering 8 extra days to visit for an additional $30? From what I can tell, the park closes on October 9 this year. So if they are offering all 4 weekends in October in 2012, that means they have 4-6 extra days of operation that they need to pay wages, utilities, not to mention paying for the new Halloween event and the "complimentary" soft drink and sun screen. As has been mentioned before countless times on this site, these parks are businesses. Their revenues must exceed their expenses or they won't be in business for very long.
  4. Wow...not even close. They are decent, but pale in comparison to Beast, Diamonback, MF, TTD, Magnum....the list goes on. I personally think the coaster collection at HW is the most overrated in the industry. A very fun park for what it is, but I would put it on par with Dollywood and other smaller parks. I don't even consider it to be in the same league with the "big boys" of the industry. Now, do I adore those parks? Yes...give me some Dollywood and HW any day, but certainly not for the coasters. All that said, I wish (and hope) that Cedar Fair exercised about 10% of the care and creativity that parks like HW do. A smaller park like that has so much going for it outside a world-class coaster collection.
  5. Wait...Santa Claus isn't real? I understand your frustration!
  6. Got two before 11 AM on 8/22/11 Final break run for DB (on brown train): A Boy behind me: "We should not ride the brown train any more, it feels like it is coming off the track."Boy 2: "I don't see a brown coaster." Boy 1 - "No, the train we are on now see it is brown." After getting off The Beast a few gentlemen around 50 years old. Guy 1 - "Man, The Beast is not as smooth as I remember. It is getting old." Guy 2 - "Maybe it is the rider getting old." Guy 1 "True, but I think they are going to retire that ride real soon." A funny personal conversion: Later, in queue for AE the train before ours was dispatched and the ride op states - "AE, KI's only Hybrid coaster." I turned to my wife and said, "So how many people in the station think AE gets really good gas mileage?" After a quick laugh and not knowing if my wife actually knew the answer I said "Since you are a card carrying coaster club member, what is a hybrid?" My wife got it right. I was so proud.
  7. I jst have a thought On the up charges... Not really sure about the season pass issue I don't mind reasonable upcharges. I love Skyscraper at CP and my family had a blast at DA! I do hate being Dickel and dimed though...
  8. That video really makes me sad that Kings Island is not a theme park any more. Theme parks > amusement parks any day for me!
  9. It takes me 3 and a half hours to get to KI, so I prolly wont be back until later in Haunt ;(
  10. Glad they aren't giving up on CornStalkers. I think it's a neat concept that's just lacking the right execution (of course that could be said for a few other mazes as well). But after seeing CornStalkers at Cedar Point, I realized how much potential the idea has, can't wait to give it another shot. Side note, seeing that picture of Curse of the Crypt has me feeling nostalgic. I loved that maze, it was my first maze at my first FearFest. Wish it was still there.
  11. I have to agree that it has been drove into the ground, but does this also mean that there is some grounds for KI to try and save it? It seems that KI enthusiast have SOB on their minds a lot. Even GP friends of mine ask me about what is happening to the ride. I seem to get asked at least every few weeks by someone. Either way, I think this is some prof for KI that there is enough interest in the ride to at least entertain the idea of fixing.
  12. I think KI should add one of these.
